Here we go again
There is a new system in the Bahamas that the National Hurricane Center is giving a 100% chance of becoming a tropical depression and a good chance of becoming a tropical storm later today. I do not like the track it is taking. Seems like there is an awful lot of activity this season and I am concerned that eventually one of these systems is going to hit the right (wrong) circumstances for developement.

Yup, just got this email from our Readiness Director of the City that I work for.
NWS Lake Charles: Tropical Weather Update: 730am Thu 7-22-10
The National Hurricane Center has issued a special tropical weather
outlook, explaining they will begin advisories on the system in the
Bahamas by 10 am today. They are not sure if they will begin it as a
tropical depression or tropical storm - hurricane recon is flying out
today to investigate.
The long range forecast for this system is to come into the eastern Gulf
of Mexico by this weekend, and move somewhat rapidly across the Gulf. At
this point there are no indications for hurricane development, but we
will have to monitor closely.
The local impacts for southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana continue
to show increased rain chances, especially in the Sunday - Monday time
frame. Also, tides have already been running 1 foot above normal - that
should continue through early next week.
Please monitor the progression of this system over the weekend.
The obvious concern with this system if it does develop once it is in the
Gulf of Mexico is that there could be very little time to react.

Re: Here we go again
The other issue is the track now shows to go more westerly that originally expected. That means if it tracks west of the oil slick, then the counter-clockwise rotation of the storm will push all that oil toward the shore. If it goes east of the spill, then it will move it back out into the gulf and away from land.
