Submitted my application to the LCPD Citizen Patrol Academy with high hopes that I make the class in August. Anyone else been through this class and, if so, how would you rate the experience?

Looks like they take take you to the range for shooting practice and pointers, too.

My application is in also. My wife graduated a couple of classes ago and had nothing but good things to say about it. She also took the top shooter trophy.

I took the Citizens Police Academy Class in Jefferson County 4 years ago. Very enjoyable, a great learning experience. Shooting and driving police cars were the best classes.

I was given to believe if you're a member of such an organization you're not allowed to carry a handgun while on patrol (even if you have a CHL) - so why are there range classes?

Or, am I misinformed?

I went through the class in Conroe several years back, I highly recommend it to anyone in any city! The highlight of the class was getting to shoot many of the departments full auto weaponry!!! I think my class was the last to get that opportunity!!

The folks participating in a Citizen Police Academy are exposed to many things they will likely never do, crime scene work, fingerprinting, etc. I believe it is done to provide a better understanding of what police work consists of. Many find it neat to shoot the same qualification course as the guys/gals working for the department (in many cases the citizens are better shooters). I think of it as a way the citizens show support for the department and not a training course preparing them for all parts of police work. The League City Citizens Police Alumni are extremely supportive of the department and work hard to improve it. From what I have seen, there is no shortage of appreciation from the department employees.

Co-worker and I also received our letters. See you there!

I was in League City's Class 10, my wife in Class 13, and my mom, sister and brother in law were in Class 9. All of us are active LCCPAAA members and have fun with it.

Finally read my copy of the "City Matters" and saw your picture. How was it? I did one of these about 15 years ago when I lived in Lake Jackson and really enjoyed it.
