ORANGE — Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday that Texas would not follow in the footsteps of the state of Arizona in dealing with the illegal immigration issue.

Arizona lawmakers recently approved an immigration bill that would make it a state crime for illegal immigrants to not have an alien registration document. It also requires police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are in the country illegally.

Gov. Perry was in Orange for the reopening of the Honeywell Specialty Additives facility that was severely damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008.

Perry said no when asked if Texas would in the future pass a law such as Arizona’s.

“The bigger issue has to do with the abysmal border security,” Perry said. “There has been a total lack of effort by the federal government to protect our borders. In 2005 I first asked to bring in propelled drones to use as a tool. The feds have no interest in securing our borders. Security requires coordination from local, state and federal governments. We in Texas need to focus on what we can do.

“We are spending billions on the war on terror, which I fully support, but we need the same kind of support with our borders.”

I will agree that our borders definitely need some "attention".

I agree. But this problem should have been addressed 30 years ago.

These aliens drop babies who become voters. Neither party wants to alienate that burgeoning base of future voters so they coddle to the alien parents while giving lip service to the citizenry.

Once again, it's all about re-election of whichever party is in power at the time. We need term limits for ALL elected officials.

Regardless of what Gov. Perry says, he does not make the laws alone. He may veto a bill if presented to him but he cannot stop it from coming before the Legislation.

If you think Arizona's Law is sound, then you need to contact your State Reps and get them to sponsor a bill that does the same for Texas.

I, personally, think it should be done.

And before any of you ex-Californian's or Chicagoian's start yelling that I am racist, forget it. I believe in protecting Texas from all threats no matter what color they are!

Thank You!

Everyone should be in support of LEGAL immigration, but fervently opposed to ILLEGAL immigration.

The Fed's have done next to nothing to address the problem of securing our borders. And the individual States haven't done much better, it is high time for tough (but legal) enforcement.

Channel 19 out of Tyler reported tonight that Rep. Leo Berman, of whatever District Tyler is in, has made a motion in Austin for Texas to follow AZ's lead on the border issue.

Go get 'em Leo! :txflag:

PS:

Maybe our other Texas Reps. will follow Rep. Berman's courageous lead and follow suit in Washington. How about it, Jeb? :patriot:

I sent Governor Perry an e-mail asking him to stand behind Arizona.

San Francisco is trying to organize a boycott of the state. No matter what one thinks about illegal immigration or the law Arizona passed, a city or state should not try to dictate to another the laws that state or city should pass.

I would hope Texas still has the courage to stand up for what is right. :patriot: :txflag:

A Republican Texas lawmaker plans to introduce a tough immigration measure similar to the new law in Arizona, a move state Democrats say would be a mistake.

Rep. Debbie Riddle of Tomball said she will push for the law in the January legislative session, according to Wednesday's editions of the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle.

Everytime I hear something than Gov. Perry said or did I start to like him more and more, not saying I didn't like him previously. I read an artical in newsweek not long ago and he got my attention.

Gov. Perry doesn’t want to lose the Hispanic vote and as such passed the hot potato back to the Federal Government which has been spineless on securing the border.
Obama has put it back in the oven. They're just undocumented Democrats after all.

Note to President Obama: The National Guard is for Guarding our Nation.
