Wanted: Name for my gun
It's my first handgun, S&W 1911PD and I need a name for it. I don't have any ideas yet and I'm not sure if it's a guy, gal, or unisex.
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson

Re: Wanted: Name for my gun
I usually try to give a gun a name based on the brand name, features, or something that relates to it some how. Seeing how it is a 1911 Variant, A Smith and Wesson, and "John Smith" might qualify as one of the the most common names in America I must humbly offer up "John Smith".
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Re: Wanted: Name for my gun
"Trigger" has worked for 50-plus years as the name of Willie Nelson's guitar. Seems it would be an appropriate name for a pistol too.

When I saw your gun, "Boss" immediately popped up in my mind. then "Earl". I dunno why.

For me, all mechanical things have female names. I mean, you put a lot of time and money into it, but you get a great reward She looks like a Stephanie to me

Re: Wanted: Name for my gun
I generally don't name my guns/vehicles/guitars/etc., but having said that, I do call my S&W Model 29 "Big Poppa." My son named his PT1911 "Loki."
For a 1911? How about "Johnny" (in honor of JMB)? I like joe817's "Earl." Or, howzabout "Chesty?" (But be careful, he may make you drop and give him 50 for the Corps.) A simple, honest, gun needs a simple, honest name... ...if we're going to name them at all... ....but I tend to think of pistols in the masculine, and rifles in the feminine. "R. Lee" just occurred to me.

How about Bob? That's a simple name that is hard to mispell.
