Hi y'all. 'haven't had much time to read here of late. Efforts at getting TX teacher certification accelerating. Impatient, but well, like my old dad (זייל) used to say, all things come to those who wait.

Anyway, I sort of checked in a week ago or so, and IIRC, there was a topic about a new law being passed, that would prevent employers from forbidding their employees from having a weapon in the company carpark. Did I dream that, or is really happening?

A new thought came to mind. As a motorcyclist, what would happen if I rode my bike into the school carpark and then unloaded my sidearm into the pannier?

This might be inadvisable in itself, as obviously motorcycles are easy to steal, but would it be technically feasible? Legal? Brandishing?

Your thoughts would be welcome.

Anyway, I can't see any mention of a school situation there. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see...

School Parking Lots are not off limits to CHL's/Guns in cars according to the Texas Law. Only the physical buildings of the School (including sports fields) are off limits, and this may change soon.

Some Schools have their parking lots posted with a non-enforceable sign.

Additionally, most Schools have a "Policy" for their employees (Teachers, etc.....) that forbid guns in cars in their parking lots. If identified, the CHL'er would not be charged with anything, but could be terminated due to the School Policy.

Yeah, that's the bummer. I saw an ISD in N Texas that allows some 'appropriately trained' school personal to carry a handgun on school premises. Here's hoping that Austin (if I end up there . . ) sees the light before I get there. Then again, as I've heard it referred to as 'the People's Republic of Austin', there's probably little chance of that.

So I suppose it comes down to how surreptitiously I manage to unholster the Kimber and get it into the pannier.

I think you would have a hard time unloading and stowing your firearm without unconcealing it. You would not have much of a defense against an "intentional failure to conceal" charge. In a car you can conceal the gun with the car itself.

Seriously, though, that district was a small district in the panhandle.

My wife is scared to death of being fired if anyone even THINKS she shoots, due to the whole WI teacher incident. She won't even go shooting with me for fear that a parent or student will see her shooting with me and "complain" so to speak.

I don't think thats warranted here, but that's how paranoid some are.
