Shuttle flyover
Did anyone else in the Clear Lake area get a chance to see the Shuttle transport flyover today? I got some great video of it coming right over my building. I'll make sure to post it later. One of my coworkers got to pilot the Apache escort over JSC.

Re: Shuttle flyover
I did, I work right on the corner of egret bay and Nasa 1 in one of the three identical buildings on the sixth floor. I didnt have a camera to capture the event, but it sure was awesome!

Re: Shuttle flyover
I could have sworn I saw some snipers, too, on top of mission control, because I'm pretty sure that roof access is pretty tightly controlled. Last time I went down to see one, security didn't seem quite that severe.
...guess it could have been the building manager...oh, well, I prefer to think snipers.

Re: Shuttle flyover
Cool video. Thanks for posting.
The pilots should have flown over inverted so you could see the shuttle better. That is the way the shuttle flies most of the time anyway.
The shuttle spent the night up here in Ft. Worth before flying down south to you guys. Wish I could have seen it live.

Same reason Air Force One has escorts. It's an item of national importance. Also, flying at about 2000 feet is low enough for most small private aircraft to reach, and with Homeland Security nowadays...CainA wrote:Another thank you for posting the video.

Re: Shuttle flyover
very cool. Thanks for taking the vid. hate to think that this might be the last time to see her in that fashion since they only have one more trip on the books right now.

Re: Shuttle flyover
I could be wrong, but it looked like a T-38 to me, which is one of NASA's favorite rides. I assumed it was doing video of the flyover over JSC. I sure it had an escort or two, but they usually fly higher overhead to provide a better attack angle if they need to intercept a potential threat. Now, the black helicopter, that one may have been a little different story.agbullet2k1 wrote:Same reason Air Force One has escorts. It's an item of national importance. Re: Shuttle flyover
The T-38s were for video/PR purposes. The F-16s can be seen in some of the other videos circling around at about 5000 feet. The Apache was flown out of Ellington by one of my coworkers. He just happened to be getting flight hours in that day and decided to wander over and get a front row seat. He wasn't carrying munitions....so he says.Keith B wrote:I could be wrong, but it looked like a T-38 to me, which is one of NASA's favorite rides. Ahh, I must have missed the F-16's in the video (was watching the small version.) The old eyes aren't what they used to be.

Thanks again for posting!!!!
