I work for an engineering company that is putting in as many hours as possible to create new, expand existing, and provide support for the rebuilding of energy producing plants all over the world...
So when my mother got back from a business trip to Europe (this week) the subject came up, that we'd better be glad we have it so cheap now...
I know there needs to be a little more research done to substanciate the claim, but since they sell gas by the liter, and those liters being 8 euros per...Thats about .67 cents (American) to the euro...And there being about 5 liters per gallon...
Do the math...
I thought this might be an interesting, or depressing (depending on your situation) subject to kick around, refine and discuss through the summer...
BTW, you could get an idea about where the "cheap gas" is by logging onto

Conversion from gallons to liters is 3.78541178 liters = 1 gallon.
So at $5.36 per liter that's $20.29 per gallon. Dang, is that right?
Is that really the price of gasoline around Europe?

Using the weekend currency conversion table at the Comical, and the AA Roadwatch website linked by dave_in_austin (latest data from February 2008), I find:
Netherlands unleaded = 1.535 euros/L
1.582 USD = 1 euro
So I calculate as follows:
(3.78541L/gallon)*(1.535 euros/L)*(1.582 USD/euro) = 9.19 USD/gallon equivalent for the Eurozone's most expensive unleaded gasoline in February 2008.
Southeastern Eurozone prices were roughly 70% of the Dutch prices.

When I was in France almost 4 years ago, the exchange rate was about $1.23/Euro, and gas there was about 1.20 Euros/Liter.
Let's see... 1 Gallon is 3.78 Liters, so 1.20 Euros/Liter x 3.78 Liters = 4.54 Euros, which translated at the time to $5.58/Gallon.
I see that they've had a bit of a price increase since then. Heh, heh. Maybe they'll stay home.
