So the fastest loading of the .220 Swift with a 29gr bullet with 42gr of 3031 is 4665ft/s. The 5.6X45 would be bullet velocity is 23325ft/s per Joe. WOW! The bullet practically gets there before the trigger is pulled.

Let's take a look at that, shall we?
The .22-250 is right around 4000fps. I'm sure there are faster rounds, but this is a good one to work with.
5 X 4000 = 20,000 feet per second. Changing that to miles per hour gives 13,636 mph.
The speed of sound at sea level is 761mph. That means your AR-15 is spitting out bullets traveling at almost Mach 18!
Well heck, no wonder it will "Blow the lungs out"!

OK, back to the calculation. Assume a FMJ bullet traveling at Mach 18 - how hot would that get?
I confess that I don't know.
I do know that the Apollo space capsules re-entered the Earth's atmosphere at around Mach 20 and they exceeded 1100 degrees C.
Copper melts at 1084 C.
So, you best not be shooting any lead tipped ammo out of your AR-15 or it will melt. The copper will be almost to the melting point and probably deforming under that speed and temperature.
That must account for the expansion when it hits the target!

Aside from the spin imposed by the rifling of the barrel, the limiting factor that determines the maximum muzzle velocity a bullet can attain is the speed at which the ignited gasses expand. The functional limit with modern powders seems to be a barrel exit at a little over 5,000 feet per second.

The only thing that exits faster than that is Joe Biden's grasp on reality.

1/7 or 1/9 rifling would cause the bullet to explode into powder due to centripetal forces at that speed. What a moron.

I remember reading about a guy who over powered his reloads and had his bullets explode when exiting the barrel. I actually did the math and was shocked at the Gs the outer casing of a bullet faces. Can't find my research or the original article. I'm not doing it again tonight, but if somebody really wants me too, I could be talked into it. Or maybe somebody smarter than me on this board can do it.
