Yeah, but the Yankees’ll never celebrate the holiday properly. There’ll be BLM demonstrations and calls to end “systemic racism” and whatnot, but no real rejoicing of the new-found freedom in the spirit of 1865 Galveston.

Juneteenth is a TEXAS holiday and for the nation to usurp the day is a real example of cultural appropriation.

It is nice to see the rest of the nation finally following Texas' lead here and acknowledging that Texas is so important that they should all celebrate our accomplishments.

Now we need memorials to the Alamo in all 50 states!

Reconsidering, I think you’re right. Just like when the Army misappropriated the Field Artillery’s Caisson Song to become the Army Song. I was upset until I realized that the entire US Army now stands to attention when they hear 🎶And those caissons go rolling along!🎶. As they should. Nobody knows the new lyrics.

Are there new lyrics? I will always here it as those caissons rolling along no matter what is being sung.

Of course. No covid. Must not be such a crisis that it can wait. Just another day, your heart condition can wait. We are on a national holiday. Oh, I forgot to mention that the father's day weekend is after that. Surely you can wait, right? 😎

Another little stated fact is that at the time the General rode into Galveston in ***1865*** to announce the slaves in the USA were freed ... Texas was not a part of the USA, so the event occurred in "another country" and it's sort of like celebrating Bastille Day, Boxing day, or Cinco De Mayo.

(Texas left the USA February 1861 to join the CSA, General rides into Galveston {a separate Country still not part of the USA} Juneteenth 1865, Texas readmitted into the USA FIVE YEARS LATER in 1870 President Grant signed the act to readmit Texas to Congressional representation on March 30, 1870, and this federal act was promulgated throughout Texas by a general order issued by General Reynolds on April 16, 1870.

So, on Juneteenth 1865, a USA General rode into a place outside the United States & made an announcement outside the USA to announce a thing from 1863 (Emancipation Proclamation) in another Country (USA) ... so let's make it a paid day off.... We should look at times other USA people made statements outside the USA & proclaim more holidays.

And many people are missing the fact that the Emancipation Proclamation was unconstitutional. At the time, slaves were property (more proof that the law has nothing to do with morality). Anytime the government takes property, it must pay fair market value (Fifth Amendment). There was no compensation made by the proclamation. Maybe we are talking the wrong side getting reparations.
