Thanks! To be honest, the hardest part is trying to work out again. Mainly because of the fact I used to be very athletic.
2005 I graduated from hs at 155 as part of a 3rd place state cross country team.
2006-2008 I gained lots of muscle in the corps of cadets at A&M up to 190.
2009 on worked out less, drank more beer. Graduated from college weighting 220.
Then, by the end of 2010 I was at 260. Feels good to be going down instead of up!!
I have given up hope on finding time to get to the gym with twins at the house. I orderd the Power 90 dvd set for working out at home. Has anyone else tried this before? I think its going to work for me. If all goes as plan I'll move onto the P90X stuff.

We did P90X for a while. Its a good workout program, but time intensive. You need basically an hour a day set aside to do it.
I didn't get to finish the program...we got about halfway in and I hurt my shoulder at work. When we tried to get back into it...phew!

The Annoyed Man wrote:Well, I've finally gotten around to doing something about my weight and general health. Those of you who've met me know that I am a fat tub of goo.
I worked out a trade deal with a personal trainer recently where she is whipping my fat butt into shape in exchange for me building and hosting a bangup website for her with a cart system for selling her nutritional products and promoting her personal training services. So I started working out with her on Monday, two weeks ago. The workouts are (for me) pretty hard, but I am amazed at how much I actually can do that I didn't think I was capable of. So I have a 1.5-2 hour morning workout in the gym on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I do cardio stuff on the days in between. I can already tell a difference in how I feel, and my general sense of well-being. Plus, my appetite has gone down and my energy level has gone up. I haven't lost weight yet, according to my bathroom scale, but my clothes are starting to fit me better and friends at church are starting to ask me if I've been losing weight. So something is different.
The only thing is, my chronically messed up back is still a factor, and even though I haven't particularly injured it further by working out, It is more common than not that it hurts a lot afterwards just from all the increased motion. So I find that I have to take something for pain relief either just before or just after the workout so that I'm not all crippled up afterward. Then later, after the pain has subsided and the meds have worn off, I actually feel pretty good, all things considered.
Update: I have lost 14 lbs in the last 3 or 4 weeks. I've gotten a fair amount smaller and I'm wearing my former "skinny" clothes (which used to be my "fat" clothes from when I was even thinner). Friends at church are beginning to comment that I look like I've lost weight....AND that I seem to move differently and be more spry.

Congrats! No progress for me to report (family health problems and traveling didn't do me any favors this month). I did start a weight lifting program today, lifting 3 times a week plus some cardio, so hopefully I'll have some success to report soon.

Congratulations! Keep up the good work. The next month and a half will be challenging - if ever there is a time to encourage overeating, especially of sweets, this is it. Remember: you are allowed to take small portions (just a couple bites) in order to get the flavor without having to eat an entire "serving". Or, forget what your mother taught you and don't clean your plate, if someone else serves you.
I've been struggling to lose the same 8-10 pounds for about three months now. Seems that my desk job combined with higher work stress is making it difficult to control the munchies. And having the fully-stocked kitchen just a few steps from my office doesn't help in the least. Time for me to work on summoning up some of that will power I used to have.
Will there be a new post for 2012, or are we just gonna keep stringing this thread along?? Any other (evil) smokers (besides me ) still out there that are gonna quit too??

I know what you mean. I classify as a dismal failure this time around. But, now I've got a better accountability partner (SWMBO) and more modest goals. 10 pounds by Christmas (8 more to go!), 10 more by Valentine's Day, and another 10 by my birthday (late May). We'll see if "smaller bites" work any better.

I tried and didn't make it. This year hasn't been the best of years from a health perspective and recent diagnoses necessitate a complete overhaul of my diet. So weight loss will happen now regardless.

Uh, oh... Is it anything that you'd care to elaborate on? What else should I avoid in SA?
Had the doc tell me several months ago that losing 20 pounds would put me in just about perfect shape for my age/condition/whatever. Don't know what he's thinking, since I think it's closer to 40 pounds that need to go. Probably 20 is an easier goal to meet/maintain. We'll see.
