4th generation Texan, American...well, the earliest record is in Virginia in 1690. There are some breaks in the genealogy, but his wife and one of his sons have unusual name spellings that keep turning up well into the time of the easily verifiable ancestors.

Looking at the poll, I see we have a lot of immigrants here in Texas, and on the forum. We may have to start keeping our state a better secret or us native Texans could wind up in the minority!

My son was actually born in Oklahoma City. Since I was stationed there on active duty, I borrow the state's manner of treating Texan military personnel and consider him a native Texan.

However, that doesn't stop me from teasing him about being an Okie! :biggrinjester:
Funny story - while we were stationed in Germany (Wiesbaden), I was in the Air Force, but the large percentage of the military on the base was Army. Our daughter had already been born in the Wiesbaden Air Force Hospital. We were friends with a couple about our age, he was in the Army and she was due to have their first child. Both were from Texas. He had his parents send them a small amount of Texas soil, which they put into a plastic bag and wrapped in a pillow case, and either got it into the delivery room by secret or convinced the nurse to let them bring it in, so their firstborn would be born over Texas soil. :hurry:

I came here way back in 1983 from Arizona. So I have been here long enough to pick up a Texas accent. I had been talking to people in another state and they said "Your from Texas aren't you?" When I first moved here it seemed everyone had a Texas accent, eventually I couldn't hear it anymore. So I guess I am becoming closer to being a native than not anymore.
