...his color has nothing to do with it ;-) ...unless the owners were outright lying, the dog was no threat to him at all...

After a Fort Worth officer shot and killed a family dog, the police department is taking steps to prevent it from happening again.

About time....

I hope more departments do the right thing and realize that prevention begins with proper training.

This sounds like a tragic accident. But equally disturbing is a police department that is willing to further torment their victim in an attempt to cover up a mistake on their part. There should be absolutely no hesitation to acknowledge the error on their part and to apologize to the victims of their actions. Police officers are given extraordinary power and authority over the lives of others. They must be people of extraordinary morality. Lying, covering their butts, or even sullen silence is not an acceptable response.
I don't have much experience with the FWPD, so I don't know it's reputation. I hope that once the dust has settled, they will have done the right thing. But all to many PDs across this country seem to foster an attitude of "Sheep Herder" among people that are supposed to be "Public Servants."

I didn't realize how old this story was, and didn't see the later posts.
I'm glad to see how well the FWPD seems to be dealing with the issue.
"As the chief made it clear, he doesn't want what happened to Cindy and Mark Boling to happen to anyone else."
We need more PD with attitudes like that.
