I was in the USMC assigned to Port au Prince, Haiti. All the news we got about the event was via radio.

I was 3yo and don't recall anything, my father said he was down in the Trinity river bottoms target shooting with a 1917 Enfield Eddystone (which I still have) when a couple of Tarrant Co. Deputies walked up and ask for I.D. he showed them his reserve police I.D. and driver's license, they then told him Kennedy had been shot and that he might want to just go on home!

I was in third grade. I remember the announcement (my Dad was the principal at the school). School was dismissed early and we were all being sent home. Things seemed very strange that day after the announcement of the shooting.

I like to listen to books on CD when I take long road trips. On a trip in October, I listened to the book "Killing Kennedy" by Bill O'Reilly. Not saying that is the best book on the subject, just the only one I have heard/read. The public library has the book on CD and it is worth the time to listen. JFK was no saint. They cover what is suspected in the death of Kennedy. Also his relationship with Marilyn Monroe and the very large number of other women in JFK's life.

Moments later it was announced that the President had died. We were sent home early.
twomillenium, Those same rumors floated around our school as well about the electric paddling machine but I can verify that no such machine existed. However, students did not like getting the paddle from my Dad. Being a principal's son is no fun. Once I moved on to other schools, if I did something worthy of paddling, I got it at school and again once I got home as the principals must have a "paddle list" that gets circulated amongst the group.

I was in Dallas, HS junior. A lot of kids skipped to go downtown, but I didn't. My Dad was returning from a hunting trip with rifles in the backseat. He was stopped and questioned, but fortunately he had a deer with him.

On Sunday, I was downtown waiting for a bus across from the Police HQ and heard the shot that killed Oswald.
