Re: Drug Test for Welfare
I can't add much to the previous posts except to say it my own way: Anyone who receives money from someone else (or from some entity) must expect to have strings attached. I'm in favor of drug testing for welfare, standing on a scale before getting food from a food bank, and being required to pray before getting warm mittens from a church. I know from personal experience that (with certain exceptions for mental illness) handouts weaken everyone. Grrrrrr.
There is an afterlife - what we do here matters!

Not physically no, but they can make it very uncomfortable for you to refunse...uncomfortable as in no longer employed there. I would say that is a type of coercion.blackmesa wrote:Private employers don't force you to take a drug test. If they are not willing to take one then nobody in the US should be required to take one for any reason even private employment.

I don't see why we can't handle welfare in the US like we do Humanitarian Aid.

Re: Drug Test for Welfare
Most people would be amazed to know how much money from government programs goes for other things. It almost seems like many of the programs are designed to facilitate misuse of money supposedly being spent for something else. One example I'm very familiar with is guaranteed education grants for low income single mothers. They are eligible for a $5,000 grant (not a loan...a grant...which is free money that never has to be paid back) every semester they are enrolled in college classes. The only qualification they have to meet is enrollment...and attendance for the first 2 weeks of classes, at which time the money is electronically deposited into THEIR checking account at THEIR bank. Although the money is supposed to be used to pay tuition, books and school expenses, there are NO actual controls on it. Once they have attended 2 weeks of classes, they can drop the class and keep the money with no repercussions. I personally konow many of them that use it for car payments, cell phones, TV's and so forth. They do this year after year, with no intention of actually going to school, and no one at the schools or the government cares. Don't get me wrong...I also know many who use it the way it's supposed to be done, and it allows them the opportunity to get an education they would not be able to otherwise, and I think that's great. My question is why isn't the program structured like a scholarship, where the money is deposited directly to the college in a student account that can be debited by the school for legitimate school related expenses, instead of going to the individual's bank account with no regulation on how or what it's used for? It really seems that the program is intentionally set up to encourage misuse of the money.speedsix wrote:...just drove by some low-rent gov't assistance apartments here...so many TV dishes on the roof I thought it was Diet Smith's Magnetic airship...we payin' for those, too???

That's why the US is in trouble. People and companies getting handouts.
The companies and people that propsper without welfare are being PUNISHED for not being parasites.
Shrug Atlas Shrug. And soon!
