philip964 wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 3:25 pm My 10 year old AC uses some outdated illegal freon. When it starts leaking, I'm going to be in for a shock. People said to buy a jug last December, but I didnt get around to it.
there is a drop in replacement for R22
4 somthing
I have it in mine but most dealers want to see you a whole new unit so they can make more money
I saw an ad for one called Bluon 22. Since I had to replace my condenser unit it was an R410 unit. Before the big hullabaloo about freon building AC's used R22 and auto and refrigeration used R12. I'm assuming R12 had the best cooling properties since the units were small and the load was tremendous on cars and refrigerators and freezers which now use R134.

I do most all my appliance, pool pumps, AC ( capacitors, fans relays, etc. ) and electrical repairs, but changing a compressor is a little out of my league these days. My son-in-law is like you; he decided he could replace their heat pump. I'll put it this way they were without heat most of this past winter. The final cost was just about what he'd have paid someone to do it.

China Virus economy is literally killing us. I had a lady friday almost crying over a 60 dollar repair. She hasn't worked in 6 weeks and is running out of money. Last year at this time people didn't care what a repair cost, just fix it. This whole thing has to stop. And soon!

:iagree: Wish you were here in my area, I'd give you my business. I'll mention you to my son-in-law in Mansfield. He has several rent houses and three business locations.

That is very nice of you to offer but we work mostly Plano, Frisco and North Dallas area. Mansfield is a pretty good distance for us.

Yeah, pushing 50 years real hard. Started in 1973.
WE are mostly commercial and our service/replacement business has all but dried up. Our only saving grace is the new construction we have going
