Good point. I have been wondering why the zombie blood does not infect them when it splashes on open wounds. In the episode before this one there was a scene that made me wonder if they were going to go there next. When they went to drop off the kid at that utility/city center they, (Shane and Rick), killed a zombie cop and then mentioned to each other that there was no bite marks. Then they looked at each other for a second and you could almost hear the "doodoo-doodoo" music playing.
My next prediction is that the "zombie disease" is going through mutation. OMG!!! They are all going to be dead or become zombies in the end!

SEMI-SPOILER ALERT!!
When I saw the cow in this past episode, at first I thought it had been zombified. I won't say anymore because I don't want to ruin the show for those who haven't watched it.

It is always about shoot placement.
Yep... no COM shots for the zombie apocalypse! We must all get proficient at head shots.

I was thinking the same thing.
Btw, imo, the ideal firearm in this situation is a good 22 rifle. Headshots are the rule anyways and what else would allow you stock up and carry as much ammo. Also, the sound won't carry quite as far or it can be easily suppressed to quiter than a pellet gun.

It seems smart on the surface, but wait a minute!!! Is this a hidden anti-gun agenda? Just kidding.
Too bad they don't have that metal-rod plunger thing the bad guy used in "No Country For Old Men" - you could just ring the dinner bell from atop a high perch, wait for the Zombies to run up, and then individually put them out of their misery - no muss, no fuss, let the compressed air do the work for you.
As for the blood and infection and such - I'm betting whatever the doctor whispered to the sheriff in last episode of last season (which supposedly WILL be revealed this season) will explain that. Remember he did all those blood tests on everyone and then right before they left, after the sheriff thanks the doc for letting them leave, the doc says "There will come a day when you won't thank me" or "there will come a day when you wish you hadn't" or something ominous like that, then doc whispers in sheriffs' ear and the sheriff gets a very concerned look on his face. Must've been something about the nature of the infection that doc had been studying all those months.

Zombie survival "expert" Max Brooks would agree with you.

I'm not sure the zombie brain would be any more likely to be devastated by puncture than a human brain. It's also a large area of grey matter in the zombie that is inactive(from first season). I'd put my money on a high velocity round that would have the best chance of fragmenting and getting something into the brain stem area.

When the show is sponsored by Gerber, it's no suprise that knives are better for zombie killin'.
I wonder how long before Shane gets infected from cutting his hand with the same knife he used to stab zombie melons with moments b4. I mean, there had to be zombie virus on the blade, I didn't see him put it in an autoclave.
I posted this a while back in the other Walking Dead thread. I thought it was pretty funny. I remember thinking about this during season one when they would use the radio as a narrative device.
