Re: Legal thoughts
A couple years back we had a storm that blew down a section of my wood fence. A few days later I see this car sitting in the alley and a lady taking pictures of my fence. Ten days later I get a notice from the City of Plano giving me 30 days to repair my fence. The car belonged to a lady in our HOA. I could not believe anyone would act so ridiculous about a fence falling down.

Re: Legal thoughts
Had a nice chat with my neighbors several years ago, right after moving into our new place....it went along the lines of "yeah, if anyone ever tries to start an HOA here it will be met with resistance...we will not be 'joining' it"....it was actually a little more colorful than that, use your imagination...
We have local code enforcement, that's more than enough! The charm (and I'm serious about that) of our neighborhood is that it's very different / eclectic, there are small houses, big houses, modern-style, older houses, nothing is cookie cutter. There's even an A-frame.

Re: Legal thoughts
The fence along my driveway, between me and my neighbor, blew down in a storm a few years ago. I had been repairing it for several years, including some extensive repairs to a section that had blown down. No assistance or thanks from the neighbor. Once, when I was out of town for work, my neighbor watched my wife lift a broken panel off of our driveway in the pouring rain and did nothing to help her. He's a real peach. Bless his heart.03Lightningrocks wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 7:09 pm A couple years back we had a storm that blew down a section of my wood fence. So, when the storm finally killed the old fence (several posts snapped at the base), I was prepared to split the cost for replacing it.... until...
My neighbor comes to my house, drunk, shirtless and belligerent. He says, angrily... "When are you gonna fix your fence?" I said... "MY fence?"... He said.. "Yea, it's your fence because the nice side faces your property." (I promise this is not bull... He actually said that.) I replied... Well... If it's MY fence, I'm just going to haul it to the street and let the trash guys haul it off. I don't need a fence along my driveway. Then, I'm going to call the City and let them know you have a swimming pool that isn't fenced."... And I walked back inside my house and closed the door.
They put up a new fence a few days later... Saved myself half the cost for the fence.
I still would have shared the cost with him... but.. he was going to have to ask me politely.
I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!
