I pulled up at a stoplight and noted a goat bouncing around the back seat of the car in front of me.
Maybe it was a meal on the hoof going to the tiger's house? [=)

I should have gotten a pic back before the 2014 election of the parking lot here at work; only renewable energy company in the area, six cars in the lot, including a customer's brand new Volt, and every single one of them with Romney/Ryan stickers.

Re: What's The Weirdest Thing You've Ever Seen?
You work in an ER long enough, you see some weird stuff - but most of it is pretty gross. I do remember one lady who came in with massive open fractures of both her upper and lower legs, the injuries incurred from having jumped (or been pushed) out of her husband's car at freeway speeds. When her feet hit the ground, both of her femurs literally exploded, laying open both of her thighs from buttocks to back of knees in what would have certainly been fatal wounds if untreated. Her lower legs were also shattered, with open fractures, and when she arrived on the EMS backboard, her legs were literally tied in a half square knot.
She was conscious and alert, and in such deep tissue shock that I think that she wasn't feeling as much pain as you'd expect. We had to actually untie her legs to begin assessing the full extent of her injuries. These were the single most massive wounds I have ever seen in somebody who survived. When I see pictures or videos of American GIs who've just sustained catastrophic injuries to their legs from IEDs or landmines, they mostly don't look as bad as this woman's legs looked. She had chucks of bone sticking out of her legs all over the place.
11 months later, she walked out of the hospital. I used to see her around town occasionally afterwards. But, she never walked fully upright without a cane again. It was never established by law enforcement whether she jumped or was pushed from that car, but her husband showed up in our ER not too long afterward with a couple of fatal .45 caliber gunshot wounds in the chest.
But seeing two mangled human legs tied in a knot was pretty weird for me.

Re: What's The Weirdest Thing You've Ever Seen?
I was on ski patrol a long time ago and picked up a young lady who had crashed. We splinted her in the position she landed in, with her left leg folded back almost along her body, and the right leg pretty much straight out. It wasn't until she arrived at the hospital that it was found that her right leg had the worse injury and the left was merely (!) dislocated. Her right leg sustained multiple closed skin fractures and had been twisted a full turn so that the foot appeared to be almost in the correct alignment. The leg had turned completely inside her ski pants, so although we did detect the deformation, we didn't see the twist. The Annoyed Man wrote: But seeing two mangled human legs tied in a knot was pretty weird for me.
She was back out skiing a year later.

I am done with this thread. It's like watching a Saw movie now.jimlongley wrote:I was on ski patrol a long time ago and picked up a young lady who had crashed. I did not work in an ER, but did get called down to assist when things did get weird or unruly. I won't go into detail, but I too have seen and done some odd things down there. The Annoyed Man wrote:You work in an ER long enough, you see some weird stuff - but most of it is pretty gross. I dated a gynecologist's nurse. Had to tell her early on that I really didn't want to hear how her day went or what interesting things she found over dinner.C-dub wrote:I did not work in an ER, but did get called down to assist when things did get weird or unruly. Three German men drinking from enormous beer steins, wearing nothing but Tyrolean alpine hats, mounted backwards on a draft horse being led through the streets of Munich by a lovely young lady in lederhosen.

I've cycled over that bridge a number of times and the ultimate velocity reached is scary fast.
Over the Kemah bridge on a unicycle, especially without brakes, naked?
I think that tops my tiger spectacle.
I'd rather ride IN the back with the tiger, than do the unicycle number...clothed.

Re: What's The Weirdest Thing You've Ever Seen?
OK, this doesn’t follow the rules of the thread as it’s actually what somebody else saw. But I thought it was a pretty cool tale, so I’ll pass it along.
I had managed to get my finger cut up with a chainsaw a few years back. (Got lucky, no real damage and completely healed.) I was feeling rather sheepish because of the stupidity required to be in that position. The ER doc must have felt sorry for me and related the following story to make me feel better:
During the ice storm of 2000, he said a man was brought in with the worst chainsaw wounds he had ever seen. It looked as though the running saw landed on the man’s thighs and just kept right on going, chipping but not breaking, the femur of both legs. The muscle was peeled back leaving gaping wounds. Then the guy asked the doc if it was, “bad.”
The doc said he told him, “see those white things in the bottom of the wounds? Those are your thigh bones.”
That’s when the guy said, “Oh I can’t see them. I’m totally blind.”
A blind guy, sliding around a downed tree laying on an ice patch with a running chainsaw. Hard to see how that went wrong.
