Given that the Reston strain is airborne, saying that human-lethal strains of Ebola can't become airborne is like watching a Norwegian break a world record and authoritatively stating that no Californian will ever be able to do that simply because they haven't yet.
Ebola airborne transmission has been documented between animal species although the exact means was not determined.

Airborne transmission to humans and between humans has not been tested and documented.

Those in (supposed) authority keep claiming it is not transmitted via airborne means and keep telling us not to worry.

Right.

Keep in mind, Dr. Brantley ALWAYS wore gloves, splash guard and mask w/ eye shield as well as booties. I would suspect as an MD his hygiene was decent as well and he caught it. It has always been the policy of the government to understate the dangers of a situation to curtail panic. A little panic may be a good thing here.

Let's review. This guy goes into Presbyterian ER and says he's sick and he's from West Africa. They send him home. He exposes neighbors, goes outside to vomit and exposes a school aged child that goes to help him up. An ambulance is called and the step daughter warns the paramedics so that they glove up and put on masks. They transport back to Presbyterian and THEN he is placed in isolation. The ambulance itself continues in service for an additional 48 hours before it is quarantined exposing numerous other patients and firefighters. Then the firefighters themselves are quarantined at home.

Now it's a big deal and hazmat contractors come in to mitigate the contamination. Public health officials now try to quarantine the entire population of the complex and one does not cooperate and flees. He has multiple high risk health issues already and exposes untold numbers of other people. Dallas Police with an embedded public health doctor locate this guy and detain him and the same ambulance gets to pick him up and transports him to Parkland.

So do you all think, with this information it is contained? ZERO chance of anyone on the flight getting infected? Really? CDC and associates has been playing catch up ever since the proper protocol was first ignored by Presbyterian. Now firefighters, police, ER staff and untold others are at risk because a selfish (and IMHO evil)individual lied to come here knowing he was infected. It's like that old shampoo commercial, "He coughed on two friends, and they coughed on two friends and so on and so on."

Unless you're a hermit, imagine how hard it would be to identify everybody you've come in physical contact with in the last three days. Maybe I could, but only because I had very limited public interactions Friday and the weekend was pretty well full of church functions. Attendance wasn't terribly high, so by the time you ID and question the first 3-4 that I remember being there, you would have a pretty solid list. All stops were at otherwise empty quick stops due to the timing.

Oops; forgot the stop at the dollar store for snacks. There were probably a dozen other customers in there that probably can't be identified, (lots of cash customers, so pulling receipts won't help much) and given the layout of the store, I was close enough to cough on most of them at some point.

Now, had I been vomiting recently, I probably would have handled the whole weekend a lot differently, but that's me, my desire not to put others at unnecessary risk and Southern culture. Others with different morals from different cultures, who knows?

That's too bad. I was really hoping he'd make it. His survival would have helped to calm fears..... plus, I wish death....especially THAT kind of horrible death...on nobody.

So making it to US does not necessarily improve your chance of survival

The funeral home procedures get to be tested now. Who wants the job?

No, but his chances would have been much better had they kept him the first time. They probably would have if he had been totally forthcoming in the interview with staff.

Now we wait for the other shoe to drop.

As far as the body goes, I would think that cremation would be called for, regardless of the wishes of the family.

If I had a tinfoil hat, I would consider this a factor in his outcome.

On what basis? Direct contact with the original Ebola patient?
