I watched that video and I must say that, her accent not withstanding, that could have been Chicago or NYC. This whole thing is flat out dirty politics.

The Annoyed Man wrote: Sure, why not? About the only thing I don't like about Texas is the politics. When I was a young man, if someone tried to run the kinds of political ads we see here now (witness Wendy Davis's sliming of Greg Abbot starting a few days ago over Abbot's [alleged] "support" of a rapist), that person would have swiftly found themselves on the receiving end of a lawsuit for slander......and the plaintiff would have coasted to victory. But here, now, this kind of shoddy political product is commonplace. Heck, republicans do it to each other.
I believe, there are plenty of people around who, if the politics were reversed, would be on the DA's side. I agree this is pure politics. I also think Perry overstepped.
The idea of politics as a "contact sport" is bull. Our founders were not above it either, but that doesn't make it right.........although there was a delicious exchange between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams once, and their various supporters when they ran against one another. An Adams supporter once publically suggested that were Jefferson to become the president, “we would see our wives and daughters the victims of legal prostitution.” A prominent newspaper in Connecticut opined that Jefferson's election would foster a nation in which "murder, robbery, rape, adultery and incest will openly be taught and practiced."

One of Jefferson's supporters countered that Adams was a rageful, lying, warmongering fellow; a “repulsive pedant” and “gross hypocrite” who “behaved neither like a man nor like a woman but instead possessed a hideous hermaphroditical character.”

Jefferson and Adams were very close dear friends for a long time. Politics got in the way and they seemed to hate each other for awhile. Near the end of both of their lives they mended that friendship and became very close again.
Now, it is obvious from your tone that you a) do not like Perry, and b) might even be a democrat yourself. I have no party baggage to cloud my discernment. I'm not Perry's biggest fan either, but in this case, as the chief executive who represents the interests of ALL Texans, not just the narrow interests of some little party apparatchik with the apparent job description of sniping republicans, he is right to try and force her out. How many democrats has she pursued? And don't try to tell me that there is no corruption among democrats. Of COURSE there is. SHE is placing her narrow party concerns and personal ambitions for power ahead of the good of the state's residents. Perry might well replace her with a republican if she steps down, but at least that one will be clear headed. Perry has his own ambitions, some of which he may not be qualified for either. But if I have to choose whose house to forget my wallet, I think it is safer with him than with her.......and party's got nothing to do with it.

I just think that he is right in this instance.
You're right. I don't care for Perry, but I'm more of a Constitutionalist or Libertarian than anything. I do like a good discussion.

If we kicked everyone out of political office who had been convicted of a crime, there would be some huge holes in the governing bodies of our state and country.

If this is the standard for indicting elected government officials, the president needs to be the next one indicted.

Did he not loose the Speakership of the US House, just simply because of the indictment? Now ten years later he has been acquitted, but it is being appealed? (not sure if I have ever heard of a criminal case being appealed by the prosecution) At the time the whole thing seemed politically motivated.

Now another liberal Austin DA had done the same thing to the Governor. I'm not sure I understand this one either. This seems politically motivated to prevent him from becoming President. (I don't think he has a chance, VP maybe)

I was a fan of Tom DeLay and I felt that whole thing was unfair. Now I'm not a big fan of Governor Perry, but this seems just as unfair.

Do we need to move the Capital of Texas out of Austin, so this kind of thing can't happen any more? :txflag:
It cannot be appealed. The appeals court rendered a judgement of acquittal. Double jeopardy prevents the hag from continuing to go after him. If it didn't, I have no doubt she would pursue him to the gates of hell.

I think we all know who should do jail time here, and it isn't Governor Perry. God bless him and God bless Texas.

Lehmberg is a political assassin. She got Delay & now she is aiming for the brass ring. The special prosecutor going after Perry, Michael McCrum, works for her.

Everything she values is contrary to mine. She is a big time liberal with a aggressive, despicable attitude.

I have no sympathy for the humiliation she suffered during her arrest & booking. It was merely a taste of her own medicine.
Under Lehmberg’s leadership, the DA’s office was able to win a conviction in the money laundering case of former House Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay. And despite attempts to move the public integrity unit over to the attorney general’s office, Lehmberg has maintained control of it.

This article tells more about her views and politics.

“We’ve had some high-profile public corruption cases and we have a good many in the mill right now, so it’s going to be pretty important that someone with a reputation for being independent and taking a look at those cases in a nonpartisan way stays in office,” she said.

Michael McCrum was appointed by a Williamson County judge. Williamson County is much more conservative than Travis County.

baldeagle wrote:Charles, what do you think the chances are that the legislature will introduce a bill to deal with this sort of abuse? Perhaps make it illegal to serve as a DA once you've been convicted? Or give the Governor the power to remove a DA who has been convicted?

Let's really get serious and create a law that ANY elected official that is convicted of anything more serious than a Class C traffic offense must be removed from office upon that conviction. Why single out just the DA?

Great job, TAM.

SP what I am, wondering is why she hasn't been indicted based on her threats while she was being legitimately arrested?

I watched all of the arrest videos of Rosemary Lehmberg . Hilarious. Everybody's fault except her own. How pathetic.

I agree, however, it is being appealed. Some would say a witch hunt. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB1 ... 1362878614" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
