The plot was originally about the Chinese invading - but the producers wanted revenue from showing their movie in China, so the bad guys were changed in post-production.

I agree - although dated, perhaps, the original was still better.
It's interesting to me how, through the years, how the BG du jour in movies have changed.
I am old enough to remember the Germans, Japanese, communists, drug dealers, the Mafia, corrupt politicians, drug smugglers, European terrorists, middle eastern terrorists as the bad guys.
You can almost date a movie by the group of bad guys that the hero is fighting.
I wonder who will be next.

CHLLady wrote:I thought the 2nd movie had a very plausible story line. My beef was with the actors and characters. There was not the bonding to the character as there was in the first one, no connection, not as much rooting for the good guy feeling as there was in the first. I felt like the movie was made around the lead actor and his brother was an odd match. I kept waiting for the girls to show their stuff, but was disappointed. As my daughter said, she connected to the girls in the first movie. IMHO

Oh great movie Shoot Straight! I need to get that one also to show my daughter. :thumbs2: And totally agree, no remake of that one.
Wait yuou believe an invasion by North Korea is a plausible story line??? :headscratch

Note, the original bad guys were Chinese, much more plausible, but that was changed because China objected. :eek6

its not because China objected. I beleive what I read was the chinese were the only ones who would finance the film so they changed the bad guys to North Koreans.

Well if they aren't funding it unless you change who the bad guys are, you're kind of objecting no?

I haven't seen the new version of Red Dawn. I liked the old one and can't say I need to see it re-done. Maybe I'll catch it since football is near it's end. For the most part, I'm tired of everything being a remake. Are there any original ideas out there? I've been watching a lot of independant films, at least most of them have a decent story line - however, some independant film makers try too hard to be different, so even that doesn't work all the time.

Maybe one of these days someone will make a movie about zombies.

Now that vampires are sweet and sparkle, zombies need to step up to defend undead cred.

That's already happened. Check out Warm Bodies. It's a Zombie movie that I think was targeted at the Twilight crowd. I was stuck at home for two days with a cold, so I watched about 40 hours of tv since I couldn't sleep. I watched the entire movie and must say it was entertaining - or it was the meds. Either way, it was kinda original.

jmra wrote:I really don't think it is a fair comparison. The first movie was set in a time where the concept that our soil could be invaded by a large military force was not considered by the general population as far fetched as it is today.
The problem with the remake is the lack of an enemy that the general public fears.
:iagree: That is exactly what I thought when I watched it. But then again, we lived the "Great Russian Threat". Lord only knows what kind of heroes the liberal schools have made out of the Russians from back then. I bet the schools brainwash our youth into believing the Russians were the innocent victims of American Imperialism and never a real threat. That would explain how some would not get what you were driving at here. ;-)

Maybe the general public should understand the tensions going on in Asia better. I wish the media would give it like it really is to the American people so that they squirm a little in bed at night and wonder what the heck our enemies are doing. Maybe they would realize that sending a letter of protest does NOTHING but make them laugh at us as our politicians weaken our military and use drones to show our muscle. The UN will never have enough power to protect us. WE should protect ourselves.

Russian fighter jets flying over Guam, which is a US territory.
Russian warship 30 miles off the coast of Scotland just last week. (Took the Brits 24 hours to send a ship from Plymouth to Scotland to intercept!!! This is where we are headed! The military budget has to subsidize so many pet projects of this administration, making vets pay for it, totally makes sense, yeah? But who cares, there's no real threat.)
Chinese playing Battleship games with US ships in international water near Japan.
North Koreans causing drama at every US holiday, so they can try and ruin morale because every time they do this Leave gets cancelled and we are at standby.
Chinese now have warheads aimed at us that fly 2x the speed of sound.

... I know who our enemies are.
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: Yep... we are still at risk, but the majority of Americans are so wrapped up in the day to day business of "gets mines" that they have no clue.

Well, since it's Hollywood, the bad guys will be "Tea Party Terorists", or "Radical Republicans", or something like that.
