Looks like an owl to me.mojo84 wrote:owl or bar?
You won't see those big reflective eyes or that wingspan on bats.

That's what I thought at first until I looked up bats in flight. Their wings aren't shaped like that in the picture. Then again, if it's a bat, it's a big one. Either way, I would be like the deer, not sticking around.

Re: Feeder cam captures deer fleeing
Cool picture. I think it's an owl judging the width of the tail - looks too broad for a bat. I think a bat's wings attach all the way to the tail; except a free tail bat, I guess. I wonder what spooked the deer because owls are completely silent in flight. Their feathers are designed in such a way that they don't create any noise which allows them to detect (hear) movement in complete darkness. I can attest to that personally. I was varmint calling one night years ago and I as stood up to take a look from the blind an extremely large owl was about a foot away from my face. I think it was as surprised as I was, but even as it frantically flapped to get away it was silent. I only felt the wind of it's wings. I have captured what I assume to be owls on my game cam, but the shutter is too slow for a clear photo. I can make out the eyes, though.

Maybe the owl was saying hooty hoot, hooty hoot as it was approaching the deer. The deer decided it was time to get the heck outta Dodge when it heard that. ![Jester :biggrinjester:](./images/smilies/biggrinjester.gif)

What? You can't see the broken crate and the tornadic looking creature cutting it's way directly through the trees? Actually I love the look of the photo, you would be amazed at how a realistic owl dummy will drive off coyotes, birds, and mess with dogs minds.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

cool pic, looks more like a squirrel to me than a bird. Looks like a bushy tail and feets out at the rear of the animal not back along the tail like a bird. yep definitely a squirrel, saved the pic and used photoshop to look at it

Yeah it's definitely skeeee-daddee-ling! And if the bugger is big enough to carry a deer I'd be doing the same thing!tomtexan wrote:Maybe the owl was saying hooty hoot, hooty hoot as it was approaching the deer. The deer decided it was time to get the heck outta Dodge when it heard that.
