And now the ACLU has withdrawn its demand that the feebs investigate Z again: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/07/f ... 94518.html. Seems the ACLU has a long-standing policy of NOT recommending double-jeopardy trials, and their current director got caught up in the insanity and forgot the policy. They have now sent a letter to AG Holder about it:
Romero’s statement stirred concern among some civil libertarians that in a rush to join the chorus of outrage over the Zimmerman verdict, the group had turned its back on the policy it settled on two decades ago.

In an apparent attempt to stem the controversy, a top ACLU official wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday to make clear that the group does not favor a second prosecution of Zimmerman in federal court.

“We are writing to clearly state the ACLU’s position on whether or not the Department of Justice (DOJ) should consider bringing federal civil rights or hate crimes charges as a result of the state court acquittal in the George Zimmerman case,” Laura Murphy, director of the ACLU’s Washington office, wrote.

“The ACLU believes the Double Jeopardy Clause of the Constitution protects someone from being prosecuted in another court for charges arising from the same transaction. A jury found Zimmerman not guilty, and that should be the end of the criminal case,” she wrote.
“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

A couple different people have posted saying that the SUV was on fire, but I haven't seen it in any of the news articles. Am I just missing it? Or are most of them leaving that detail out?

Also, "Trayvoning" is now a thing: http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2013/07/19/tr ... ial-media/

A couple of hours ago Fox news mentioned that 4 people were in the overturned vehicle, and suddenly two men showed up to help. Those two men were presumably George and his bodyguard. They rendered aid, then left (as they were not witnesses to the accident).

:
Drudge headline said fire, but story did not. So I said it burned. It may not have been on fire when the people were helped out. George stayed until the police came, and gave his name to them.

The report of the story linked by LegalInsurrection did include the fire and said George had a fire extinguisher to put it out. (They are citing Breitbart, who is in turn citing the Sanford PD.)

http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/07/zi ... ue-family/

They also mention the police had to turn most of the evidence from the Trayvon Martin case over to the FBI and Justice Department.

This thread isn't ready to be closed just yet.

Well, the ACLU was against Double Jeopardy, then for it after Rodney King, then against it, then for it after Zimmerman, now against it again.

At least they are consistent. :smilelol5:

ACLU may have dropped out of the lynch mob, but I didn't notice any indication that it would defend Z against a second prosecution. So I guess the light they saw was still a little dim.

You'd think the ACLU should be all over this what with their zealous regard for the fifth amendment and all and the violation of Zimmerman's right to a Grand Jury under it.

The ACLU has no interest in the Constitution except when they can use it to corrupt our rights ever farther and assist in the downfall of this country. They are part of the enemy.

Note that it's the American Civil Liberties Union, not the American Constitutional Rights Union.
The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. James Madison

A woman holding a racist sign and shouting a racist chant at Quanell X's march on Sunday in Houston was an Austin based left wing plant, her picture was picked up and distributed world wide as a pro Zimmerman supporter.

This story busts her cover.

She was interviewed and said that her sign was meant to be sarcastic and pointing out that there were others at the rally that were racist and proud of it, and that she was not one of them.
