Good trial coverage here. This is a legal blog of a Cornell law professor and the Martin coverage is by an attorney specializing in self-defense cases (link previously posted by Bald Eagle): http://legalinsurrection.com/tag/trayvon-martin/
And here is another opinion on the larger motives for this trial: http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/201 ... n-and.html

But here’s the key: Obama and the Democrats would actually prefer an acquittal here. That’s because the whole point of the ginned-up Zimmerman affair was to inflame racial sentiment to boost black turnout in 2012. With any luck, they can turn an acquittal into another racial rallying cry, which will help in 2014. It’s not about Zimmerman; he’s just one of those eggs you have to break to make an Obama omelet.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
it was noted prior that he lost a lot of weight in the last few years, and with that, it is very easy to gain weight, if you stop doing the exercise or due diligence to maintain your weight.dubya wrote:I just saw on the DMN site that Zimmerman has gained, 120 pounds in 6 months. WHAT!!!!? GEEEEEEEZZZZZZ!

Stress does that to me. In the past year or so I have been under more stress at work, so when I get home I don't feel like going to work out, so I eat dinner then veg on the couch in front of the tube or on the Internet. I had lost 20 lbs before that, but gained some of it back and am not near as toned as I was. I am sure Zimmerman has not been freely out in public roaming or hitting hte gym either; just sitting will put the weight on you quick.

Nice summary by an ex-cop: http://pjmedia.com/blog/the-backwards-t ... on-primer/
His blogging on the trial: http://statelymcdanielmanor.wordpress.c ... nt-memory/
The summary he provides clearly shows proprietorial malfeasance and it a stark description of just what a criminal railroad job this is.

This is an excellent link. It nicely summarized my views exactly. Glad to see someone else has noticed all this.VMI77 wrote:

Considering how they're getting their lock cleaned with every witness, I'm shocked that the prosecution is even bothering to continue. It's almost like their making the defense's case for them.

I agree this trial is a Sideshow (an expensive one).
But, Zimmerman could have avoided all of this if he had done just two things that I am sure he is thinking about now:
Observe & Report.

Cute but I thought that's what he was doing when he was jumped by some who was kicked out of school for behavior problems.AEA wrote:I agree this trial is a Sideshow (an expensive one).

I'm thinking "observe and report"
1. He got too close. I don't think pursuit is part of that. I could be wrong.
2. He was armed. I believe thats a big no no as it might result in jupe of situation.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
There were two things of note in yesterdays proceedings. First, Rachel Geantel responded to every question with "Yes sir" and "No sir". The day before it was "Yes" or "No". She was clearly coached overnight. Her answers were often snippy, as if she was really tired of being questioned and just wanted it to stop.
The second thing was her discussion of the phrase "creepy xxx cracka". She stated that "cracka" was a common term in her culture for white people. No surprise there. But then she said that "creepy xxx" meant a pervert. The day before she said that she had told Trayvon that maybe the guy wanted to rape him. So, given the use of that phrase, this now makes sense in the context of things.
I'm not sure how the jury will view her testimony. She comes across as sincere but willing to lie for lots of reasons and not the least bit bothered by it.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
The most telling part of her testimony was the "Oh you want that too?" response she gave when the prosecutor asked if Trayvon had said that the man had exited the vehicle. That is a strong indication that she was responding with what she believed the prosecutor wanted. Also strange was the fact that the transcripts didn't transcribe that response, filling it with asterisks. It seemed plainly spoken when the tape was played.baldeagle wrote:There were two things of note in yesterdays proceedings. 1. I wouldn't have been so mind numbingly stupid as to pursue someone through a complex like a cop because guess what, I'm not a cop.baldeagle wrote:You would prefer to be unarmed when a thug attacks you?Cedar Park Dad wrote:I'm thinking "observe and report"

2. IIRC neighborhood watches are typically not armed with anything more than pepper spray and a cellphone. They also buddy team when possible or don't get out of vehicles.
3. They don't get that close and don't actively pursue persons through a complex.
4. If I were actually doing that, I would at least have had my Dad's mountain dog. No one is going to attack a person with a large dog. Anyone who tries to get at me through a Caucasian mountain dog is clearly insane and likely immortal in some B movie sort of way.

Well things may not be going well for the prosecution. Lots of articles about Rachel Geantel and how she is not understood by privileged white people. Here she is being smeared. http://www.salon.com/2013/06/27/the_sme ... l_jeantel/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Considering the news media is still on their side I can't imagine who is doing all the smearing.baldeagle wrote:There were two things of note in yesterdays proceedings. Trial is over, the news media is pretty much calling us all racist http://news.yahoo.com/star-witness-blac ... EAlkbQtDMD" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The majority white jury is racist and they haven't even ruled. Only way justice could have been served is if the jury was all black. We have now moved from Zimmerman is guilty to Zimmerman was guilty but was found innocent by an all white racist jury. But guys the trial really isn't even over.
