Was Peter Bergen born that stupid, or did he have to practice?

This bears all the hallmarks of Islamic terrorism. Everything from the type of explosion to the large, public event where there would be mass casualties screams "Radical Islam."

Right-wing terrorists -- if there was such a thing, which there isn't despite Big Sis' fondest wishes -- would target government facilities: Federal buildings, IRS offices and the like.

Left-wing terrorists target business interests and capitalist institutions.

To play devils advocate, the MO's you detail are not absolutes.

Eric Rudolph (Atlanta Olympics bombing and others) would be an example of a domestic terrorist with right-leaning political motivations who staged similar bombings at a similar event (no government building involved).

It's all just speculation and conjecture at this point, some of it heavily slanted toward the "bad guy" some pundits hope it will be for their particular political gain.

Right-wing terrorists -- if there was such a thing, which there isn't despite Big Sis' fondest wishes -- would target government facilities: Federal buildings, IRS offices and the like.

Left-wing terrorists target business interests and capitalist institutions.

There are radical extremists radicals in all cultures, religions, political sectors and even small clubs and organizations. It just depends on how 'radical' they are to a movement. Let's not forget the OKC bombing was domestic. PETA and ELF are just as capable of doing things as Al Quida. I will hold any thoughts of who/what until they have more evidence or a solid suspect. Saying it has all the hallmarks of this or that now is way premature. Pipe bombs with fragmentation components are about as basic as you can get.

I agree, we cannot rush to judgement.........like the media has........as to who is responsible. The BIG get from this is that this is absolutely terrorism, regardless of who did it, and our president—ONCE AGAIN—refuses to call it that. That low-life so lacks any clear distinction of what is good and what is evil that while his fellow citizens.......most of whom probably voted for him, this being Boston after all........are laying on the ground, some dead, others with their limbs blown off, in what is undeniably a coordinated terror even with multiple explosions and other bombs discovered and disarmed, AND THIS MORAL CRIPPLE CAN'T BRING HIMSELF TO USE THE WORD "TERRORISM!"

Even that trained monkey Joe Biden would, at this point, make a better president than that hot mess we have in office right now. There has GOT to be some way of impeaching that man.

I hate to burst some of y'all's let's-not-rush-to-judgement, everybody-is-equal, PC bubble here, but my remarks didn't get pulled out of thin air. They are based on the evaluation of one Dr. Jeff Addicott, who is an actual terrorism expert (Director of St Mary's Center for Terrorism Law ) and not some political hack at CNN. I'll wager he knows more about this stuff than all of us put together.

My comments were not intended as a swipe against you, bdickens (as I stated, just playing devil's advocate). And I was certainly not advocating anything PC or "can't we all get along".

By one and only point is that - regardless of level of expertise - there is not enough publicly known information to say with any clarity at all who is responsible. Thus - as I said - it's all conjecture and speculation at this point.

That said, I agree with you that a terrorism expert certainly trumps the-guy-at-CNN-who-last-saw-bin-laden-before-9/11/01 ... but trumping a 2 with a 3 when there are multiple face cards still in the deck isn't much of a trump.

I missed this mornings FBI briefing
did or has anyone heard of the shrapnel pieces contained any foreign substances, like rat poison or fecal matter or any other readily available biologic material?
I ask because over in another world, they were using similar substances to maximize effect long range, staph infections, slow blood clotting if at all etc.
I havent been able to find anything on the news lines, except it was ball bearings and bits of screws.
i am sickened by the event and loss of life. I want to be confident the bg or bgs are found and dealt with. I pray its not some nut that had an adam lanza moment, and watched to much criminal minds or something

The smartest thing they did was kill all cell phone transmissions immediately after the initial blasts.

That may prevent further triggers, but it also is a double-edged sword due to loss of cellular communicaitons for first responders.
