Obama inc. tried to hack my bank account.....

So....

Today was bill day, and I tend to pay my bills online. Pull up the ISP site, and my card is denied. Same with electric, and water.

!!???!!!, thought I.

I call the bank, and all is well. Plenty of funds, yada yada.

However...

Apparently, on Jan 26th of 2012, some entity representing themselves as Obama inc out of Chicago TRIED to charge my account for $8.65, and this charge was BLOCKED by my bank, which apparently impacted my ability to use my card to pay my bills.

First, I don't have a clue why, or how my account was used for such a purpose.

Second, I find this event to be pretty disturbing, as I am willing to bet a case of doughnuts that I am not alone.


Bank rep: "Oh....I see there is a....did you try to make a donation to Obama inc?"

TDM: "Oh HELL no ma'am." ["heck" is close enough I reckon]

Bank rep: "........uh.....well......"

New card is on the way.

Fair question.

I used the card with no issues up till today to pay for groceries, gas, and such.

I don't know if there is a difference between coms nets at hard sites, like HEB / ATMS, vs. online sites. The only time I use the net is for house bills, so today was the first time I used my card for online payments this month.

Maybe somebody out there has more intel that might help clarify the issue.

Pretty sad when the ONLY time you've ever been hacked was by someone claiming to be / possibly being associated with an organization working for the POTUS. Sadder still when that POTUS is Obama.

I was basically wondering why the bank did not contact you about the fraud when it happened. My back will do that - I have alerts set, so if there is even a pending charge of more than $ 0.01 I get an alert.

I had the same thing happen a couple of months ago, only it was some outfit in France. Stuff like this happens all the time, and in all fairness, while the moral cripple in Chicago is almost certainly an Obama voter, it equally certainly had nothing to do with the administration.

C'mon, I'm just trying to be fair here, and I resent the implication that I'm either making this up or covering for some nefarious plot. I deserve better than that. There are few people on this board who dislike the president more than I do.

If I were so inclined, I could set up "Obama, Inc." here in DFW and scam people's credit cards. That's just a fact. I suppose that when French scammers did it to me, your reaction is that it must have been the French president's campaign staff that did it? Come on now. ID theft and fraud is so rampant now that they even have an annual convention for these people in the Ukraine. People buy and sell credit card numbers and other items of ID online all the time. It's a billion $$ industry.

Think about it. If something like this were traceable to the White House, it would be the end of his presidency. This IS a criminal administration, but they are NOT stupid, and they're not going to hang themselves over $8.99. It would be too easy to prove.

While I agree that this is more than likely some chucklehead using the POTUS organization as a front, I can not help but believe that this kind of practice would be approved by many members in the "real" organization.

TDM keeps a tight hold on coms and believes in the "don't call me, I'll call you" approach. This approach usually works out very well.

I had one of my CC accounts hacked with single transactions twice in 3 months. It turned out that one of the merchants didn't know anything about my transaction and it didn't fit with the series of transactions that merchant had done on the day in question. It must have been some kind of a hack into the bank's or Visa's network. I turned the matter over to the police to investigate. The bank wasn't very cooperative and the detective stopped working on it.

Situations like yours C-DUB are why I download transactions nearly every day for all of my accounts. I caught both recent frauds quickly and alerted the bank. I see it as an extension of my situational awareness. I kick off the download while I'm opening and reading my e-mail so it is no impact, time-wise.
