Haven't found it in the code yet, but this is from http://www.texasgunlaws.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Q: Can I strap a gun on my hip in Texas?

A: No, with some exceptions. Open carry is not legal in Texas, but you may open carry on your own property, in the commission of a sporting activity (competition, shooting ranges, etc.), and while engaged in hunting.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Unless the property-owner decides otherwise - that law in no way forces a range owner to allow OC, any more than a CHL allows you to carry into a premises where you're asked not to.

Elm Fork does allow OC during certain events eg IDPA shoots by people near the firing line (holstered, empty chamber, no magazine, etc) - but it's at their sole discretion, and they're real tight about when and where. Try and force the issue and they're within their rights to tell you to leave.
That's fine Andy. It just sounded like they were saying that it's illegal. If that's their policy I wish they would just say it. It's kinda like when a business says their insurance company requires a no firearms policy, but they are just using that as an excuse to restrict something they really don't want anyway.

AndyC wrote:They do say it - and it's thanks to all the swaggering idiots who used the excuse of "Oh, oops, I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have a magazine in place" - you can thank them for the fact that it's now banned. I don't speak FOR Elm Fork, I'm just telling you all how it is.

Put it another way - rapid-fire is perfectly legal, but you can't do it there or you'll be asked to leave. Their range, their rules - now if a stupid little issue like that is going to bring out all the jailhouse lawyers here arguing "It's my RIGHT!", I don't want to be a part of it.
Won't hear it from me. If that's the rule, I'm fine with it. A teeny-tiny little bit disappointed, but it wouldn't keep from the range or event.

Of course a property owner's wishes goes without saying. I was just addressing C-dub's post which said, "Haven't found it in the code yet," so I posted the code which just says it's legal. I don't think anyone was arguing that it was their right no matter what the property owner says. MHO

Sorry, all - I was over-tired and read it the wrong way. My sincere and rather embarrassed apologies
