i know it is a stupid show. However, i agree with the concept of being prepared. Some of those guys carry it really far. how far or how much would you sacrifice to do that?

I haven't seen many that are prepared in the event they lose their stockpiles. Realistically, the only large scale threat I could imagine would be something like a gamma ray burst from space, and nothing would survive. Other than that, no complete collapse of civilization is going to happen. Small disasters, sure, but we've seen world wars and people in war zones seemed to do ok considering. Can something like rabies go airborne? Sure, but not likely. If it makes people feel better, stock up. They're not hurting me.

In the case you lose your supplies it then becomes matter of skills. So even if you can't afford to prep like it is 2012 you can still learn how to build a shelter, how to build a fire, what wild foods are edible, how to trap....etc etc.

I think the shows are funny, but of course it is a TV show, so they dramatize it.

I want to bury a bus in my backyard now :)

That was some serious prepping right there.

A large fancy Mobile Home park community in Lubbock has at least 2 busses buried ... cheap tornado shelters for the residents in the mobile homes.

The water table will determine where this will work. Not such a good idea on the Gulf Coast. :biggrinjester:
