Thank you, I'll take a looktxhighlander wrote:There is a good school in Austin. I have been to 2 Systema seminars, it will change the way you look at things if you will give it a chance. I've been training in a classical M.A. school for a good 15 years, and I'm realistic about it being mostly for the personal benefits rather than street survival.
I recently stumbled across Youtube videos about a Russian combat system called Systema ("the system"). I was fascinated, and plan on taking a seminar on it when possible. Try searching for 'martin wheeler systema' on Youtube.

Uh, perhaps you ought to check out Tim Larkin. Word is he was banned from entering Britain this spring, perhaps for reasons that are entirely creditworthy, but he apparently has a poor reputation amongst SEALS, which according to them, he never was. They say he started BUD/S then dropped out before Hellweek with an eardrum problem injured in a civilian dive. His SCARS program is not well thought of either.57moon wrote:Skiprr, Great comments and great advise.
Medic624, I had the same thoughts. We are not always going to be able to avoid a situation and we may not have the luxury of drawing to stop the threat. I did a little searching and learned of Target-Focus Training. A program designed by Tim Larkin that can import a basic sense of human 2 human threat mitigation. Check out the website at http://www.targetfocustraining.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I am studying the material and find it very valuable. Skiprr is right; awareness, avoidence, de-escelate and escape; but if that's not possible, and you can't draw; then the skills you learn from TFT very likely will save your life - but I present just one person's opinion.
Kindest Regards,
Anyway head on over to SOCNET.com and search on "Tim Larkin." There is whole thread devoted to him and SCARS.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Huh, interesting... I'll have to talk to my SIL about this ... he was recently honorably DC'd after 8 yrs as an operator with SEAL team 4. By his account he really liked SCARS and had used it very effectively while deployed.JALLEN wrote:Uh, perhaps you ought to check out Tim Larkin. Thank him for his service. I have a shirt from SEAL Team 4, given to me by my b-i-l who retired a few years ago as an O-6 SEAL, since, well, VN days.Medic624 wrote: Huh, interesting... I'm sure your S-I-L can get on and be welcomed at SOCNET.com and get the low-down as a BTDT, whatever it may be. I participate there as I know a couple of dozen SEALS, mostly retired O-5-O-6's now, and and NAVSPECWARCOM is right down the road from my house.
