Drinking and driving
I would like to share an experience with you all, about drinking and driving. As you well know, some of us have been known to have had rare brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.
A couple of years ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers and some rather nice red wine. Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, ... I did something I've never done before .... I took a bus home. Sure enough I passed a roadblock but as it was a bus they waved it past.
I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise, as I have never driven a bus before and am not sure where I got it from! If you know of anybody missing a bus please let me know so I can arrange to return it.

I got the joke and laughed, but now I am curious, aren't checkpoints illegal? If not, what kind of checkpoints are legal/illegal?JJVP wrote:Sure enough I passed a roadblock but as it was a bus they waved it past.

Note to self: Drive bus to bar next time...
Re: Drinking and driving
Recommend that you put the bus in "R" and it will retrace its route and take you back to your car.
Note to Self: Park bus; Get into own car; Drive straight home - Do not stop in bar; Do not pass checkpoint intersection - Use different route. Sleep it off.

Re: Drinking and driving
Love the OP.
As far as Gigga's posting:
I am not trying to debate the effectiveness of checkpoints, or saying anything about LEO's or Giggas posting. I am however pointing how that even in Texas a Police Department can go unchecked.
As far as Gigga's posting:
and then...."Random sobriety checkpoints, for example, have been deemed unconstitutional by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals."
"The Conroe Police Department also provided a large programmable sign that flashed the words “DWI sobriety checkpoint ahead”
I am not trying to debate the effectiveness of checkpoints, or saying anything about LEO's or Giggas posting. I am however pointing how that even in Texas a Police Department can go unchecked.

From the article:
Thank you for the link gigag04
That's what I figured the signs were for. I read somewhere that they would place signs indicating there would be a checkpoint for drugs, and then they would just watch who made a last minute exit (reckless driving) and pull them over.we agreed that officers working the area would stop only traffic violators on the roadway and those who broke laws passing through the checkpoint (by trying to avoid it, etc.)
Thank you for the link gigag04
Re: Drinking and driving
The checkpoint was not random; they more than likley had been planning to have it there for quite some time if they were able to get the sign set up.steveincowtown wrote:Love the OP.
