The comment boards on just about any version of this story are full of left-wingers who are in a FRENZY and beside themselves with glee that the shooter has been described as a "right-wing Christian extremist", whatever that may be. The thing is that these are the same people who would not raise one peep of sound when various attacks have been perpetrated by Islamists such as Al Qaeda (I use that word vs. Muslim, as I don't wish to condemn those who don't deserve it). The same people who tried to paint the guy who flew his light airplane into that IRS building as "right-wing", but he was nothing of the sort, more of a lefty-anarchist, perhaps. These are the same folks who called Loughner out as being "right-wing" and "Tea Party affiliated" when he was nothing of the sort, and who refuse to admit he is far more left-wing than right. If the killer in Norway was a nutjob, then so be it. They need to look at their security protocols and see what went wrong. If there are more of him out there, shut them down. BUT, the leftists are using this as an excuse to justify things like Napolitano's "report your neighbor" program and video...they'll try and use this incident in Norway for more gun control in the USA and to attack anyone who opposes the current Community-Organizer-in-Chief's re-election campaign. BUT, if the high-level of gun control in NORWAY didn't stop a guy like that, how can ANY amount of gun control stop them? The painful truth is, that it cannot...and all the jabbering hype by these folks on the 'Net is just political pandering. They don't care about the victims, just how they can exploit the tragedy.

When will everyone on the planet understand that true evil has no religion, no politics, no race. It does evil things not because it has to, but just because it can. Anywhere on the planet a monster can appear. Being that there are 7 billion people on the planet, I should say "a monster WILL appear." Without the will and weapons to fight back, people are just a target, lambs to be slaughtered. Before the Brady Bunch gets started about taking away more guns, let me say that it is too bad there were not any defenders on the island where so many died. Since the police cannot be everywhere, more citizens need to be armed to protect society. The pacifist Brady Bunch hasn't got the stomach to pick up a firearm and defend, so they should realize that they are the lambs and get out of the way.

The gun control types have no intention of ever doing anything in their own defense, and they don't want you to, either, and they want to train EVERYONE to think like them...the only one during the VA Tech massacre who seemed to have any real gumption was a Holocaust survivor, who held a door so those "kids" could go out the window, and then died for his troubles...sorry, I know SOMEONE will come on to rebut me with another anecdote about this, but it really gets my goat. I'm not claiming to be any sort of hero, here...but its the TRYING that makes the difference, sometimes.

I could be wrong, I suspect that are more 1 shooter. Maybe a dozen or so as in "death squad". I am speculating now. By looking at areal videos, the place is too big and there are so may tents. Victims could have run out the woods quickly.

We will have to see what happens of course things are changing so fast it is hard to keep up--Muslim Extremist, Right winger, one nut with fertilizer--what will be next? It is similar to the shooting of the Senator Giffords--many stories come out and in the end you have one homicidal crazy since the guy was not shot dead on the sight I imagine we will eventually know.

I do find it hard to believe that one guy could manage to kill 85 people in such a short period of time--that is really odd, and at minimum not likely. Conceivable? Perhaps, if there are more shooters put there the rest of the gov't needs to take care as this may no be over.

They were on an island. He was the only one with a gun. He wanted to kill as many people as possible, he did not wound with out later executing them. He methodically hunted everyone down on the island. People swam to get away from him, he shot them in the water, many people are suspected drown.

He had plenty of time, it took ninety five minutes (95) ( one hour and thirty five minutes) to get SWAT there. A soon as he saw other armed men he immediately surrendered.

He initially lured people to him after they heard gunfire, "come here I am the police you will be safe" or something to that effect and then shot them when they trusted what he said. It was reported that he picked a cute young woman for his first victim as he began shooting.

The only people who survived were they ones that swam far enough out or hid where he could not find them. He tried to trick people who were hiding into coming out by pretending he had left and gone on. Like Columbine, and unlike Fort Hood, the police failed to heroically rush to the island to engage the shooter or shooters, they instead waited for SWAT. After 9/11 Noway established special units to deal with terrorists. You know if your a sheep and your relying on the police to protect you rather than you protecting yourself, this is what you get.

In this case this might have been due to the difficulty in finding transportation to the island, or this may be the real reason.

"Norwegian police do not carry firearms on a daily basis; they keep them locked down in the patrol cars, and if need arises they have to get permission by the police commissioner or someone authorized by him or her." Boy just what you want to here as someone with a gun is hunting for you.

I feel very sorry for those poor people, RIP. Most were teenagers, just starting their lives. What a terrible tragedy.

I suspect there will be a lot of changes in Norway. It could go two ways. Since the BG here had qualified to have a license for a gun, they could just go like the rest of Europe and ban all guns, or go the other way, but I doubt it. Yesterday it made the news they arrested someone for carrying a knife.

The most recent changes in firearms legislation came into force at the beginning of June. The new regulations make it more difficult to acquire handguns, and raises the minimum age for handgun ownership to 20. Since the change, applicants for gun permits are also required to undergo testing for suitability for gun ownership.
