Camera Suggestions

I just purchased a Canon PowerShot 3300 IS at Target [$180]. By the time I got a couple of memory cards and a hard case + taxes I paid $270.

I tried a couple of shots in the store and the close-up [macro] focusing seems to be pretty good. I know that it's a low end point and shoot camera, but I think that it will serve my purpose.

The battery is charging now so I should be able to try it out in a couple of hours.

As far as low end and high end, that's all relative, as many folks with full size Canon/Nikon/Pentax etc. DSLRs believe they have a "high end" camera because it costs a few grand. I didn't even realize that Leica was still around. I have an "advanced amateur" Nikon N90 and 5 lenses and 50+ filters. Also the light meter, lights and stands, tripods, etc. I just haven't had the money to upgrade to a DSLR. I seem to have the money for new CC handguns and holsters, but not for camera equipment. My Nikon will take better pictures than I am capable just as my guns can shoot better than me.

The new Canon is for my job where I will be taking pictures for inserting into procedures and work instructions. My boss wouldn't approve the budget for a Nikon D7000.

Ah, the world of ISO and QOPs,QWOs, QFM, QCLs, etc, etc. I'm sooooo glad I'm retired

I've had Sony, Nikon, Canon, and have used Fuji and Kodak at work. I prefer the Sonys. Especially for battery life. Also, megapixels are important if you want to enlarge and if you want to use the computer to enlarge/zoom. Always get as much optical zoom as you can. Digital zoom hurts pic quality, optical doesn't.

Not bad.

Find and use the "Macro" feature for your close up shots, it keeps you from having to zoom in and photo sharpness and detail will be much better.

Good selection, have fun with it and don't be afraid to ask questions here if your owners manual leaves you wondering about anything.
