Are there any legal postings to stop solicitors at your home

Although I really wouldn't post it (or do what it says), I kinda like the sign that says:

"Trespassers will be shot
Survivors will be shot again."

It appeals to the dark side on my sense of humor.

"Come on over to the dark side, Luke. It'll be a hoot."

One of the problems with living in an unincorporated community like Spring is...there are very very few ordinances. The ones that are in place are by the county, and the Harris County Sherriffs Dept. and Constables don't have enough man-power to enforce many ordinances in the unincorporated areas.

The HOA and community management company that handles my neighborhood have posted signs that say "deed restrictions strictly enforced". While these could be intimidating to some, they don't have any teeth. They are useless. Solicitors are free to roam the neighborhood, but they are not supposed to ring the doorbell of homes posted with a "no soliciting" sign.

I printed a sign with a nice peaceful background, with highly contrasting lettering on it that says "No Soliciting and No Trespassing". When they come to my door and have the audacity to ring the doorbell, I open the door and point at the sign with a pretty annoyed look on my face. Of course, the first thing out of their mouths when you open the door is "I'm not here to sell you anything". I just say "good, but you didn't have to call me to the door to tell me that". Then I shut the door.

I've had a couple that rang the doorbell again and when I re-opened it, I asked them if they saw the sign. They always say yes. My response...So you understand that I have given you notice that you are trespassing, and you are refusing to leave? I will now call the police to let them deal with you. I then shut the door and watch them scurry. I really don't like solicitors.

We haven't had many issues since we've posted the legal sinage by the door, but still get a few hangers. I don't mind those as badly, it's the ones that ring the doorbell at 8am on a saturday and the ones that catch you in the street. I did find however that in my town it's illegal for them to try to solicit on public right of ways and if on private property must leave at the first mention that the person isn't interested and can't keep pushing. They must also carry a license on their person easily visible.

I like those ordinances!

I lived in a gated apartment complex in Irving. If something was wrong with the gate, which was not uncommon, it was just left open. If there were outside contractors there working on something, the gate was left open. And even if the gate was closed, it was easy enough to just follow someone else in.
There were a few signs on the gate. One said, "No Soliciting." Another said, "Trespassers Will Be Prosecuted."
I still got sales people knocking on the door from time to time and fliers hung on the door all the time.
I had a conversation with someone trying to sell the Dallas Morning News. I asked if he'd seen the no soliciting and no trespassing signs when he broke into the complex. He seemed baffled and said, "But I'm with the newspaper," as if that obviously made it all right. I quickly got tired of arguing and just told him I wasn't interested and closed the door.

I'm a bit of a hermit anyway. When there's a knock at the door and I'm not expecting someone, or if I look out and don't know whoever it is, then I often just ignore it figuring that they'll eventually get tired and go away.

I live in Hackberry Creek here in Las Colinas. The gates have guards, and there is no way to enter the neighborhood without having a valid decal or showing your ID to the guard who will call the homeowner to give that person permission to enter.

And it is almost that time for them to start selling again. (Two Girls Scouts and a Troop Leader in my house. No chance of me missing any cookies! lol)

At my last address, solicitation was a problem for me too.

We had a solid door that I put a peephole in.

If there was a knock on the door, I'd look out the peephole. If I didn't recognize the person I simply didn't answer the door.

Soon the solicitor would simply go away.

One more thing that helps is to draw a chalk outline of a body on the ground and spread some sales pamphlets around.
