Bank robbery surveillance photos for TX, other states.

The above is a cool site which contains bank surveillance photos of robbers.

The search function is not that slick, but you can roam around and find various
geographical locations, from Texas and multiple other states. Some of the pix are
of such high quality that if you knew the guy you would immediately be able to know it's
him.

Currently the Texas bank robbers seem to be clustered in the Dallas area, but they
have one from Katy, and of course the hillariously and appropriately named "ZZ Top Bandit"
from San Marcos.

The FBI attaches nicknames to the robbers for quick reference while working cases.
Sometimes BanditTracker includes them, sometimes not.

If you input the website URL manually, remember that the site uses TWO, count 'em 2, T's.

Drewthetexan:
There was a group of Dallas area bank robbers from Garland and other towns.
There were 7 of them (6 men, 1 woman). Their name was the "Scarecrow Bandits"
since in their earliest robberies they usually wore floppy straw hats and flannel shirts.

They had many weapons, body armor, and did "takeover" style robberies where everyone
had to get down on the floor. It would have been just a matter of time until someone got
shot.

Some of the trials have completed in Dallas. I believe they got away with $315,000 total
in something like 7 different robberies.

The average bank robbery only nets the robber $1500.

Wow. Sounds like something out of a movie.

Looking at the bandittracker website, I was actually surprised at the frequency of bank robberies - and more so, that people manage to get away.

In Greece, you have to enter a bank one at a time. There is a little phone booth sized room with thick plexiglass walls (ballistic glass?) that you enter at the front door. You are directed to look at the camera, they take your picture, then buzz you into the bank. Exiting is a similar procedure. Apparently bank robberies were extremely prevalent before doing this.

What we need is a $50,000 investment in Face Recognition Software and anyone who enter or leave you USA is IDed and his photo on file with ID from Driver Licenses and passports, it would be more than 50% positive ID of all those criminals. Heck the banks will pay for the expenses.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't FDIC cover robbery losses?

I imagine to make facial recognition viable, 3d imaging would have to become standard practice as opposed to photographs to account for varying angles, light conditions. Of course a mask or fuzzy cameras would obviate the whole system immediately.

Yes - for a while anyways. The FBI has about a 65-75% arrest rate.

I don't know if she's still on BanditTracker, but a year or so ago there was
a good looking blonde gal robber. She wore a UT Longhorns baseball cap and
had the biggest smile on her face during a bank robbery in Austin. Like robbing
a bank is just a big joke.

She also was alleged to have robbed 1 or more banks in the Pacific Northwest.
She was "The Ponytail Bandit."
