Gran Torino
Wow. This is byfar the best movie I've seen in years and I see alot of movies. There are so few movies that stick with you, but I think this is going to be one of them. The range of emotions you will feel in this movie is what I'm most impressed with. I don't cry at movies but this one had me. Mostly tears of anger though. As CHL holders this is a must see movie.

Re: Gran Torino
I've seen previews for it and I plan on watching it. The funny part is that I have a little Honda Civic that looks just like the "gangsta" one in the preview... hehe.

Re: Gran Torino
My wife and I went to see it this weekend. It's the first time I've paid $9.50 for a movie and not been disappointed.
I went in expecting Clint Eastwood to make a movie much like Charles' Bronson's Deathwish.
I was happily disappointed.
Go see it.

Re: Gran Torino
Yeah, I agree, this is quite possibly the best movie ever. The communication that Clint is able to convey with a scowl is amazing. The story was very well written, and the ending was, as the phrase went, bittersweet.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Re: Gran Torino
A couple of comments on the movie:
The audience appeared to be overwhelmingly older folks.
Clint Eastwood looked just like "Walter" (Jeff Dunham puppet).
It was an extremely good movie. My son watched it two days in a row.

Re: Gran Torino
I am looking forward to seeing this movie. All I have seen so far is the advertisement and it looks great. There is only one Clint Eastwood, I have been watching him since the "spaghetti westerns" and he never fails to deliver.

Re: Gran Torino
I just finished watching this and will watch it again. Rarely does a movie make me tear up (Rudy is about the only one) but this one got me. What an incredible movie.
I highly recommend everyone see this movie.

An amazing movie indeed...
I can say with ease if this country had more people like the character in that movie we would be much better off.

Re: Gran Torino
I saw it on Sunday night and REALLY enjoyed it. I watched it with my asian roomate and he loved it as well. I love what he says to that kid Tao in the basement about the way the girl is checking him out.
Also what he says to the thugs that are harrasing the young asian girl (her name escapes me right now). Classic tough old man. I was always taught not to mess with old men like that. If they couldn't kick your butt they would just shoot you.
In the end I was emotional too as the film reminded me of a lot of people I know and I am close to in one way or another.

Re: Gran Torino
I went to see it and was blown away. Clint Eastwood is awesome. The ending didn't do much for me, but I suppose it was going to happen one way or another. In response to the person who said that it reminded him of other people that he knows, ME TOO! When I went to the fire academy, we had an instructor who had that same gruff appearance, same tone of voice, same "I could kill you with a spoon" mystique. Nicest guy you'd ever meet once you got to know him, but SO intimidating few people ever made it that far. He was a Marine Corps sniper in Vietnam, just as racist as Mr. Eastwood's character, and just as open about it as well. All through the movie I kept turning to my better half and saying, "Remember me telling you about Capt......THAT'S HIM!"

I haven't seen it yet, but I plan on it. Here's an interesting link that I came across earlier in the week about Clint.

Re: Gran Torino
Well GRAN TORINO finally made it to us via our NetFlix subscription. I could see a little more of me (
) in the lead role than is PC...which was not very entertaining to Mrs. Oldgringo.
OTOH, I'm glad we didn't pay the big bucks to see it at the picture show.
