Reading between the lines on his website, he seems to be implying that there was a young man with the guy that admited to shooting the .50 cal. He seems to be trying to gather support for some sort of mandatory training before being allowed to touch a .50 cal rifle.ScubaSigGuy wrote:I already recieved a response back and according to Mel there may be more to this than first reported. Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website
I sent him an apology email for my former hurtful and mean remarks if anyone cares
I told him that I apologize, I hope his wife heals both physically and mentally and that I don't agree with his ban em all method.

Would it be "kosher" to post his reply here...or would that be stepping over the line...the guy sounds like a very level headed person that just blew up and overreacted to the situation and seeing his wife almost killed on a day that should have been full of enjoyment and fun.
Ah..heck..I'm gonna do it..if I step over the line then a MOD can remove it
Perhaps an outpouring of support (both physical, mental, and financial) caring gun owners such as ourselves (maybe even the NRA) would help him realize that those of us that do use our firearms properly are also affected adversely when an individual uses their firearms improperly...thank you, I'm slowly getting a grip with things, I'm waiting more info on the circumstances of what went on that day and there is more to this situation than the public knows right now, ballistics have to fix the firing pin on that rifle that broke while they were firing it (reason they stopped) to determine that round is from the rifle of the individual that came forward, then they'll move further into the investigation, what i do know is disturbing..
at some point if the right folks come forward i will turn my focus more towards gun safety and awareness of high powered rifles when shooting outside a gun range, sometimes you can feel your out in the country and all the sudden an area is really no longer rural anymore, last but not least letting children fire a high powered weapon such as that vulcan v50 ss-200...
maybe some safety groups could give a self imposed guideline on that or something, just an idea...
i know because of the elections and fears of a gun band, high powered weapons are flying off of store shelves, maybe now is the time for a big safety / awareness push, since a lot of novices have bought these type fire arms that have never owned them before and really have no clue as to the power of these rifles, i know that would be the case with me since i have been a hand gun guy since i got out of the service, that being said i do know the power of that particular weapon since we had two mounted on our river boat (converted mike boat) in viet nam, I've had 2 sons (army) and 1 son in law (marine) serve in desert storm and now Iraqi freedom, between taking care of my wife and keeping them under control because they love their mom is a full time job, because I'm not half as upset as they are..
since my wife got out of the hospital on Thursday evening she has been back to the emergency room twice, Saturday her hand kept swelling and she felt like it has going to explode, they made sure she didn't have a blood clot and a few other things i cant pronounce, they release her late that evening after they made sure it was just swelling and would go down, then today we had to rush her back, she was getting weak and losing ground, she now has some kind of bacteria infection due to all the antibiotics she has been taking, from what i understand she will be there for 2 to 3 days while they treat this problem, my sons are watching over her while i come home to take care of our 2 toy weeny dogs...
thanks for the kind words ,

I do so sincerely apologize for it.
I hope your wife recovers quickly and that she heals both physically and mentally from the incident and that both the physical and mental scars heal completely.
I disagree with your stance on banning the firearms because one or even a handful of shooters used their firearms unsafely, but this is America and your freedom is protected just as mine is.
Once again sir..I apologize for my hurtful and "mean" spirited reply before
I'm not a member of the NRA yet (just signed up with TXRA...gotta get more funds for a life member of NRA) I know an email from me would probably fall on deaf ears there....maybe someone can forward this or maybe bring it to the attention of those that could really do some good
It sounds like this guy could use some help and prayers from the "good guys"!
What say you TexasCHLForum...this guy is a Texan...and Texans care for their own!

The guy seems to be fairly rational considering what happened. I hope things improve for his family.

Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website
I do feel for the injured woman and her family. It is certainly an example of what can happen if the four rules are broken. I pray for her recovery.
That said, "5 miles" seems a very long way for a stray bullet to travel.
Normally the "max range" of a .50 cal is closer to 4 miles. It sounds like the gun must have been fired at a very high angle and the wind caught it, from an elevated location??? Very strange.
Clearly the shot fired was no "miss"... this had to be a high angle shot into the air. For a stray round to reach 5 miles is extraordinary(in a bad way in this case) even if you were trying to do it.

That casing on the website looks awfully SMALL to be able to do what it did, IMO.

Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website
I actually agree with this statement somewhat..the range was 2.5 miles not the 5 previously statedGUN OWNERS AND MARKSMEN
I RESPECT YOUR VIEWS
THERE IS NO REASON FOR YOU TO SEND ME STATISTICS AND UGLY EMAILS, I HAVE HEARD THEM ALL SO YOU CAN STOP NOW AND NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BECAUSE I JUST DON'T HAVE TIME TO READ THEM ALL, SOME ARE REALLY NASTY AS YOU CAN IMAGINE.
SINCE I POSTED THIS SITE WE HAVE HAD 45,000 HITS IN 2 DAYS
TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE RESPECTFUL I THANK YOU.
1ST OF ALL LET ME SAY
I AM A GUN OWNER, I'M NOT A COMPETITIVE SHOOTER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, MY GUN IS FOR THE PROTECTION OF MY FAMILY AND I DO STRONGLY BELIEVE IN THE 2ND AMENDMENT.
MAYBE IF YOU WERE ON THE RECEIVING END OF ONE OF THOSE ROUNDS AND HAD TO TREAT YOUR WIFE OR CHILD'S MANGLED ARM YOU MIGHT FEEL AS I DO, JUST WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE FOR THE PUBLIC, YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THERE ARE A WHOLE LOT OF FOLKS BUYING 50 CALS THAT DON'T KNOW WHAT IN THE HELL THEY ARE DOING..
GUN DEALERS HAVE NO IDEA WHO THEY ARE SELLING THESE WEAPONS TO AND THE EXPERTISE LEVEL THEY HAVE AND COULD REALLY GIVE A CRAP LESS, NOW HOW DO I KNOW THAT? I'VE BEEN OUT SHOPPING.
THERE IS MORE TO THIS INCIDENT THAN ANYONE REALIZES AND I CANT TALK ABOUT YET
AN EXPERT MARKSMEN GOES OUT TO A MAKESHIFT SHOOTING RANGE AND SHOOTS SOUTH TOWARD TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY FROM 2 1/2 MILES AWAY ON A DAY WHEN THERE ARE 200,000 GUESTS AND 6000 RV IN THE CAMPSITE WE WERE IN, "IT GETS WORSE" HE SUPPOSEDLY MISSES HIS TARGET IN FRONT OF HIS MAKE SHIFT BERM AT 750 YDS...
YET ACCORDING TO MANY OF YOU I'M THE FOOL
NOW LET ME SAVE YOU TIME
I'M A REALIST, I KNOW THE LIKELY HOOD OF BANNING 50 CALS ARE SLIM TO NONE.
I FEEL AT THE VERY LEAST THEY SHOULD BE RESTRICTED TO A CERTIFIED SHOOTING RANGE CERTIFIED FOR 50 CALS
ANY PLACE OUTSIDE OF THAT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.
NEXT, THE PERSON THAT PURCHASES SUCH WEAPON SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH A 50 CAL TRAINING COURSE BEFORE THEY TAKE POSSESSION OF THAT WEAPON SO HE OR SHE CAN SAFELY FIRE AND OPERATE THAT WEAPON IN A MANOR SO AS NOT TO ENDANGER THE PUBLIC AT LARGE.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST DON'T LET ANYONE UNDER 18 OR INEXPERIENCED HANDLE OR FIRE THAT WEAPON
TO FINALIZE YES I'M irritated AND MAD AS HELL THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO MY FAMILY
WHETHER YOU THINK I'M WRONG, OR MISSED INFORMED AND WASTING MY TIME IS NOT THE POINT, I'M DOING WHAT I THINK IS RIGHT, I'M WORKING THIS OUT IN MY OWN WAY, YOU CAN CALL ME NAMES, YOU CAN EXPRESS HATE TOWARDS ME AND YOU CAN THREATEN ME AS SOME HAVE DONE, BUT SOME OF THE VERY SAME FOLKS WHO SAY THE BELIEVE IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS AND THE 2ND AMENDMENT DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE 1ST AMENDMENT WHICH IS THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND MY RIGHT TO SPEAK MY OPINION, THIS IS THE PATH I'VE TAKEN AND I HAVE THAT RIGHT, I WOULD BE WILLING TO TALK TO ANYONE TO DISCUSS TRAINING FOR THIS WEAPON AND OTHERS THAT CAN FIRE GREAT DISTANCES HOW SMALL MISTAKES CAN END IN TRAGEDY, NOT ONLY FOR THE VICTIM BUT THE MARKSMAN HIMSELF, WE CAN WORK ON THIS TOGETHER OR NOT..
THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE GUN ADVOCATE GROUP REACH OUT TO US "NOT ONE"
DEROGATORY COMMENTS DO NO ONE ANY GOOD BUT IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER
RESPECTFULLY
MEL MOSS JR
I hope his wife heals well...I too think I would have overreacted to a situation like this
Lets let this guy know that us here at TexasCHLForum are reaching out to him...and unlike me the 1st time around...be nice about it.

Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website
His specialty certainly is not website design!

Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website
I had to laugh at some of the images he's included as "warnings". Beware the USB flash drive!

His "redneck" image is from a gallery of crufflers. I believe it's copyrighted, at that; I'll check with the owner, whose name is Gordon Greene. That's not a .50, by the way, it's a 20mm Lahti:
http://www.thegunzone.com/people/lahti.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
While he might look like a redneck, I don't think anyone makes it through Rensselaer by being a beer-swilling bubba.

Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website
The gun-control crowd has a long history of exploiting "victims" of gun violence...That's the way they roll, and they will never change or go away...
We had the same thing happened not a block away from our home, and Charles and some others who live nearby might recall that when Jonathan Barrica was murdered a few years ago...His father was heavily pressed to come into the gun-control crowd...And he became a short lived mouthpiece for their agenda...
I knew them as good nieghbors and sympathized extremely with their loss, but I locked horns with Barricca Sr. when he started to get vocal and writing all sorts of inflamatory, non-sensical and accusatory rantings about the "gun culture" and how IT killed his son...

Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website
BTW, I would love to have a USB flash drive that looked like that...
Especially if it can be "capped" with the top half of the round to cover the USB connection...
Can you imagine the scrutiny you would endure going thru any "security" points in our daily lives???
I still have the NRA "Tom Selleck" 45-110 dummy round keychain thing that gives some ninnies the heeby-jeebies...
