Mr. Cooper, say it isn't so.
NRA member and CEO of Cooper Arms supports Obama.
He even donated to Obama's senate campaign.
Very disappointing.

Maybe he knows if Obama is elected there will be a big run on guns. Then he can make his fortune quickly and retire in another country.TxD wrote:NRA member and CEO of Cooper Arms supports Obama.

Well, I know who I'm NOT going to buy my next rifle from!

Re: Mr. Cooper, say it isn't so.
This is the hilarious part:
I don't know anything about Cooper or his rifles, but I can see that he has no skills at analyzing politics.
While I agree about the war, the Republican Party has not "moved so far right in recent years". The GOP has moved hard left under GWB's oxymoronic policy of "compassionate conservatism". Government is bigger under Bush than any Democrat could have ever dreamed.Cooper changed sides, he said, "probably because of the war. And also because the Republican Party has moved so far right in recent years."

Borrowed from another site (the guy is an artist with words)
Dear Cooper Arms,
While I fully respect the right of your chief executive officer to express his opinion regarding any political candidate, I feel that he has made the wrong decision. In supporting -- not just by voting, but with money undoubtedly earned from the sale of firearms to Americans who care about their right to own them -- Barack Hussein Obama, Mr. Cooper has shown one of two things: his blatant inability to look at facts which pertain to the continued right of Americans to possess firearms, or his intention to support a political candidate by all possible legal means who wishes to restrict and eventually deny said right.
As a relatively new gun-owner, I can tell you that even in my short time as a member of the firearms community, I had heard good things about Cooper weapons. I assure you that the quality of your product has less meaning to me than the content of your character, and your attitude regarding my rights. Consider this a notice that I will never, in my many planned years ahead of continued gun ownership, purchase a firearm from your company.
In case you've not yet noticed, American firearms owners do know their rights, they care about their rights, and they will fight for them, even if it means resorting to an inferior product when it comes to their firearms activity of choice.
Sincerely,
info@cooperfirearms.com

This is posted on their site now:
"Regarding the USA Today Article. Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc. did not contribute and does not support in any fashion the campaign of Senator Obama.
Nine months ago Dan Cooper (personally) made an online donation to the campaign in an effort to help defeat Hillary Clinton and in protest of American plant closures and the shipping of jobs overseas. Three months ago he made yet another donation to the McCain campaign and the RNC totaling over twice that given to Obama campaign.
There is no doubt that the article in USA Today has caused a considerable response. To this end we are encouraged and stand with our fellow NRA members and supporters of the Second Amendment and against those who oppose it. "
Best.

Well, either USA Today is lying, or Dan Cooper is lying. Let's see... One is a newspaper. The other is a private citizen and businessman. Hmmmm....
I'm going to go with "the newspaper is lying."

Re: Mr. Cooper, say it isn't so.
They need to retract that contorted response/rationale. I mean, you contribute to a (then) split party's candidate whom NEITHER have a pro gun bone in their body; not once but TWICE? Why? I don't pour gas on one fire to try to put the other out. Then, in an effort to level the field...just bet on all sides of the roulette wheel to balance karma? I hope for the sake of a good firearm company and many good folks who are just trying to do a good job and make a living that this is just a big misunderstanding and just typical media slanting.

The original contribution was to the "Stop Hillary" effort. The 2nd (larger) contribution was to the McCain campaign, and more than doubled what was originally given to help stop Hillary.

Yes, we understand that "Cooper Firearms" didn't make any donations, but the owner, founder, and CEO in fact did.Stephen A. Camp wrote:This is posted on their site now:

Best.
And furthermore, the explanation given above for these donations are totally negated by this statement made by Mr. Cooper as quoted in the article.
Quote:
Cooper changed sides, he said,"probably because of the war, and also because the Republican Party has moved so far to the right in recent years."
Also as stated in the article, Mr. Cooper donated money to Obama in his campaign for US Senate.
It certainly appears that Dan Cooper is an Obama supporter both financially and with his vote.

My letter to Mr. Cooper going out today by snailmail for maximum impact:

Mr. Cooper:
I am sorely disappointed to discover that you, as a firearms manufacturer and NRA member, would support Barack Obama for President. That is a slap in the face to your fellow NRA members.
A gun owner voting for Obama is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders. Obama supports every onerous and punitive gun control measure ever proposed. He opposes concealed carry laws and thinks that the draconian bans of Washington DC and Chicago should be the model for the rest of the country. He has supported bans on commonly available sporting ammunition and bans on commonly available sporting arms. In Obama's perfect world, only a select few (meaning the wealthy and politically connected) would ever be allowed access to firearms for any purpose at all, whether hunting, self-defense or target shooting.
You, sir, are what Lenin termed a “useful idiot.” You have been taken with your disenchantment with current US policy and Obama's empty promises and portrayal as the Second Coming and failed to see that his is the pathway to socialism, the destruction of the Second Amendment and the destruction of the Constitution in general. His writings, his associations, and his voting record make that clear. Your support of Obama would eventually lead to your own destruction.
When I am shopping for my next rifle, I will most assuredly not buy one of yours. And I will urge everyone I know not to buy one either. Smith & Wesson and Ruger were both hurt by their actions in the past to throw gun owners under the bus. They are both large companies. I doubt yours will survive. May your competition prosper.
Respectfully,
Byron Dickens.
