DeSantis or Trump?
Just wondering, hypothetically, if the 2024 election came down to DeSantis or Trump as the Republican candidate, which one would you support?

Re: DeSantis or Trump?
Good question. I’m sure others can wax and wain on the pro’s and con’s of each, but I’ll just say DeSantis would be my current choice.
Re: DeSantis or Trump?
Trump first. Gain the next 4 years then when Desantis is termed out as gov, I think he is on his last term before being termed out, he can run for the white house.
net result: we get 12 years total.

Re: DeSantis or Trump?
DeSantis.
If Trump was smart, he would support DeSantis asap. Maybe a DeSantis / Noem ticket.
Trump not running would leave him free to be kingmaker. He'd love that. He could make all the mean tweets he wants and the Left would go mad over it, leaving DeSantis to run on his record and focus on the issues. Trump could get dirty while DeSantis stays clean. It would be an incredibly powerful combination.

As much as I like Trump, I’d say DeSantis at this point.

First concern is the election thieves pulled out all the stops in 2020. To keep Trump out. It could happen again.
Second concern. Trump could only get 4 more years. DeSantis could get 8.

Re: DeSantis or Trump?
I think this would be the smart strategy for the Republican party. And a DeSantis/Noem or Desantis/Haley ticket would be very hard to beat in addition to setting up a qualified woman to run for president in the near future. I could see either of those two tickets setting up a potential 16 years for the party. The short memory of the American people might not let it go that long, but it might go that far.RoyGBiv wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 11:23 am DeSantis.

DeSantis. Trump will draw out the "never Trumpers" in mass. I feel DeSantis is more electable. Might even get lucky and have some of the folks who voted against Trump rather than for Biden stay home and not vote.

we like trump, but his biggest weakness is his mouth and tweets.
let trump draw fire and Desantis swoops in. then trump can play the role that valerie jarret and obama are doing now
then bring pompeo back as SOS.
hire an AG that is unknown with no long term ties to DC.

Re: DeSantis or Trump?
As the OP, I think I'd go with DeSantis. I like Trump, but his problem is that every now and then, he tries to talk and says something just incredibly stupid. He's also a non-verbal person. He doesn't read. I'm sure you all have heard about how he never read the daily intelligence briefs that were on his desk every morning. Instead, he watched TV. To me, that's inexcusable. I think Trump is a classic case "his heart is in the right place, but...."
You're right about the never-Trumpers coming out. Good Lord, there would be massive riots.
So I would go with DeSantis. He has the conservatism of Trump, but he's politically experienced, very eloquent and has the pristine credential of being an ex-SEAL. Maybe Gabbard as a Democrat running mate for VP.

Re: DeSantis or Trump?
Have to go with DeSantis. As much as I really liked Trump's policies, he alienated quite a few of the suburban moms with his incessant tweets and crass comments. Think a DeSantis/Haley or DeSantis/Condi Rice ticket could be a winner and as stated earlier, let Trump be the "Kingmaker" and senior statesman advisor.

I don’t think he was a SEAL. He deployed with SEAL Team in a advisory / legal capacity I believe. Nonetheless, heck of a distinguishes career and would make a great President!Ruark wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 6:27 pm As the OP, I think I'd go with DeSantis. Re: DeSantis or Trump?
I'd prefer Trump but DeSantis would have less vehement opposition. The left might be less strenuous in their voter fraud.
It's fine if you disagree. I can't force you to be correct.
