Prices have indeed increased in the past several decades.
Then again, if I recall correctly, my monthly pay when I joined the army as a PVT E-1 was $98 and change before any taxes.
After the army I went to college on the GI Bill and got an engineering degree. My first job, which started in 1977, paid a whopping $14K/Year!
That amounted to $6.73 an hour.
Yep, things cost more these days, but we also have more money with which to buy those things.

No 2022 projections for these, but pretty scary nonetheless (from https://www.thepeoplehistory.com/70year ... hange.html; some current prices Googled). What I think the country really needs to help right this ship is another $99 trillion spending package to forgive all loans for deadbeats, pay all housing and food costs for anyone not working, a free 65" flat screen in every apartment and home, a free car every three years to all those on Welfare, and more. This will pay for itself. Listen to what I said. (Whispering) It will pay for itself. Because we'll increase taxes on all those making over $500,000 a year, make them pay their fair share and stop trying to grow companies that hire workers. Corporations need to held accountable. Goods can be made more cheaply in China...

My HOA sends me a letter (with a $100 charge for all their effort in having to send said form letter) if I so much as have a slightly unhealthy looking shrubbery on my property. That flag would cause apoplexy and probably at least one heart attack among the HOA board members...and I'd no doubt be charged the ambulance and hospital fees. I'm still tempted...

What do they call a large group of "Karens"?
A homeowners association.
We actually have idiots that drive around looking for things to report to the city. And we are not talking about big issues. They report you to the city for the most ridiculous things one can think of.

Re: I did that. Let's go Brandon 2022
My most recent HOA letter was about putting up an "unauthorized structure". We put some sun shades on poles, about chest-high in the front yard, to screen the sun from some new bushes we planted, while they rooted. Replacing bushes that got killed by the freeze last year.
I copied the section of the by-laws that authorized such screening without the need for prior approval. Included an invoice for $50 for my time spent responding to their unsupported allegation. I actually received a written apology, but no money.![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
I received a Let's Go Brandon lawn sign for Christmas. We stopped opening gifts so I could put it out immediately.
So far, no letters...
In my neighborhood, I doubt anyone would complain.

Amazing, some of the stuff HOAs can do. I had a good friend, a retired police officer, who bought a brand new $80,000 dually pickup truck. It was a couple inches too tall to fit in his garage, so he parked it in his driveway. The HOA cited him for having a "work vehicle" parked on his property. He blew them off. Came home a couple of days later and they had towed it off. He ended up buying a Hummer, which was "OK" with the HOA.
Another one - after 2 days of pouring rain, a couple of wild onions shot up about 15 inches in a resident's front yard. She was fined $75 because it exceeded the HOA's 8 inch yard growth limit. She protested that she couldn't get out and mow the yard in the rain. Their reply, quote: "why not, it won't hurt you to get out and sweat a little bit."
One more.... a semi-rural subdivision, heavily wooded with oak trees, that didn't allow any discharge of weapons. That's not unusual, but their "list" included archery! The lots were 5 to 15 acres, very few residents could even see their neighbors. But you weren't even allowed to set up a little archery target in your back yard and shoot arrows at it. FWIW, the HOA officials were all liberal California women who had moved to Texas.
The list goes on. Our HOA is pretty nice, but some others are absolute nightmares, I swear.

And in Texas, and I assume many states, an HOA can legally fine you an exorbitant daily amount for "noncompliance" (like $200 per day) and, after a certain number of notification attempts, they can engage an attorney to get a judgement against you, then file a lien on your property, and then even foreclose on your house if you can't pay all the accumulated fees and all the charges for their attorneys. I have no evidence, but a friend who is a commercial real estate attorney told me that with COVID and people in financial straits and inflation and housing prices going up and the supply chain issues which makes getting a repair that used to take 4 weeks take up to 12 or more weeks and cost double as much, HOAs have gotten hyper-aggressive in going after violations as quickly as the law allows. That it's become easy money to pad the coffers.
