quck trip to mobile

Post by powerboatr »

have to run to mobile al next week for an overnight then back home.
was just re-reading the states laws on carrying again to get my brain on alert.
thank goodness all three are carry friendly , with lots of common rules like here. should be an uneventful trip.

now to decide which pistol to take along, :anamatedbanana

Drive that trip both ways near Austin to Florida panhandle about once a month.
Have a Glock 48 in the console and a NAA .22mag WASP in my pocket (sometimes a S&W 43C in my pocket).
Generally spend the night Lafayette or Baton Rouge and talked to lots of police at hotels. Nothing to be worried about.

8 to 9 hrs of seat time for sure,
i cut over off I 49 at opelousas on 190 then drop out at baton rouge and pick up 12 .
causeway bridge is so slow and congested, i found 190 takes a lot of that out, but adds about 30 minutes to drive, last time i ran to Pensacola to meet up with my party, this time she is meeting me a bit closer; time to take grand dog back to grand daughter
dog loves to ride in the truck

have to share a FUNNY and WOW
i left tuesday around 6 15 am, arrived safe at destination just east of mobile
left to come back on weds around 9 am, arrived safe at home around 6 pm

i saw ZERO signs prohibiting concealed or carrying of firearms in any of the states where i stopped. NONE.
I didnt see anyone carrying unconcealed either, although i did see few prints of tale tell signs of a pistol on the hip

in mississippi i got stuck  behind a prevost bus that i assume was with a nascar team. I say stuck because he was running over 77 and i ended up drafting off him for about 60 miles, when i finally passed him when i turned off I-12 near baton rouge, he was a driver wearing some sort of team jacket, but couldnt make it out. great blocker for the invisible white MDOT hwy patrol cars.

then just past the tex welcome center heading west on I20 i hooked up following a BIG red peterbuilt bobtail truck, i saw him coming like a freight train from a few miles back. he passed me like i was sitting still and i was doing 76. so i got in behind him, he was on a mission and we ran 80 plus from around waskom to hwy 271 near tyler. there was a similar truck right behind me, no way a HWY patrol would ever see me :tiphat:
this dude was flat scooting and moving. sort of made up for the 45 minutes stopped at the line for a wreck (3 cars tried to occupy the same space it looked like)

overall it was a great run, despite going from high 70s to low 40s in a few hundred miles near Alexandria

troopers were out, but they were playing fly the flag and not pulling folks over. i was able to keep up with traffic in the high 70s most of the drive :anamatedbanana

had a nice visit to my chiropractor this morning

Congratulations on making through Waskom without a visit from the local PD. The speed limit on that section of I-20 from the state line to just outside Marshall was actually reduced to 70 recently, and part of it is within the city limit of Waskom. They love to let speeders contribute to the coffers,
