I don’t so please explain.
It probably has something to do with black cattle. I'd say we're getting off topic, but these days, any post is a good post.

Literally none of the meat you buy in a store has steroids/hormones/antibiotics in it, that is illegal. It’s 100% a sales gimmick, and it looks like you fell for it. Don’t believe everything you read off of a bag of tyson chicken nuggets… As someone that’s had a hand in feeding America for most of my life, this is incredibly annoying. I’ll bet you don’t know what Certified Angus Beef is either?
Unless things have changed drastically in the past 20-25 years, that's not correct.

I grew up in Arkansas. I've worked on chicken farms, processing plants, slaughter houses and have experience in poultry, beef, lamb and pork. I've seen chicken house rats large enough chase a cat to it's death into a chicken house fan. If I were someone with a weak stomach I wouldn't eat chicken, turkey, beef or pork after what I've seen. But I'm not, and I do. But wild game is still my favorite.

It's a branding and marketing system set up years ago. It really doesn't mean it's a true Angus that you're eating. It has to be Angus influenced, with a predominately black color. There are some marbling requirements, and age requirements. Something around 2 1/2 years old or younger if I remember correctly.

But if he thinks that's a scam he should look into Kobe beef. Unless you've travelled to Japan it's highly unlikely you've ever had real Kobe. CAB is child's play compared to the Kobe scam, and prices.

Antibiotics have been outlawed in poultry since the 1950’s. Hormones cannot be efficiently given to poultry to justify the production cost. On top of that we have mandatory withdrawal periods for any medication given, on any animal slaughtered for consumption. I’ve seen plenty of rats, literally the size of cats. That has nothing to do with hormones or antibiotics, it has everything to do with abundant nutrient rich food supply.

The main requirement for Certified Angus Beef, is that the animal is 2/3 black. There are no pedigree requirements, as most slaughter cattle don’t have a registered pedigree… You’re just as likely to get Angus beef from unlabeled beef.

So much for paying extra. Thanks.

Bingo. Actually “real” Kobe or Wagyu can only be obtained in Japan. Most American Kobe or Wagyu is at best an F1 cross. There are a few exceptions to that, but for the most part.

Eh you live and learn right? When I look for steak personally, I just look for the best looking steak. If it’s the CAB beef at Kroger behind the glass, then I’ll take it. If it’s the prime ribeye in the unmarked section, then that’s what I buy. I will say, buying from a butcher is always a better bet.
