The thief who stole the purse was subsequently killed in a head-on crash while driving a stolen vehicle wrong way on the street at four in the morning. The woman that he hit happily was not killed but she was hospitalized with broken bones. Apparently she was wearing her seatbelt and he wasn’t wearing his.

Reportedly the young man who retrieved the purse has found a job elsewhere. Hopefully his new employers appreciate him more than his old ones.

It's a bit hard to fault the store owner here. In today's litigious environment, the store owner could be paying a significant penalty if his employee tackled someone and hurt them, especially if the employee was wrong and the person they tackled hadn't stolen anything. Being able to point to a blanket policy forbidding such behavior by employees could provide some legal protection from a lawsuit along these lines.
