TX: Boats sink on Trump boat parade in lake Travis

I learned about this from my Trump hater Facebook friends who were delighted.
A real tragedy considering all the guns and rifles that were lost.

Wonder if they forgot to put the plug in?

Wife asked me about that... 1 or possibly 2 boats, ok but not a slew of them and modern boats are filled with foam under the deck and don't sink without help... beyond that- just a missing plug is easy to overcome with a working bilge pump.
I'm thinking sabotage until proven otherwise.

The foam would be offset by all that weight.flechero wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 8:36 pmWife asked me about that... 1 or possibly 2 boats, ok but not a slew of them and modern boats are filled with foam under the deck and don't sink without help... beyond that- just a missing plug is easy to overcome with a working bilge pump.

This seems to show some pretty big wakes.

That's what I get for taking a news report headline for fact!! I took sinking to mean they actually sank... core foam keeps them at the surface. (think icebergs- 2/3 under and 1/3 up)
Wondering why no one has working bilge pumps... they are standard equip and required.

Looks like they got "swamped". Under the right circumstances that can happen in an instant.
The picture makes it look pretty rough - was it windy or just a lot of boat traffic? Improperly anchored maybe?

I’m with you. Looks like wakes got too big due to volume of boats and some got swamped. I’ve seen similar issues happen at shotgun-start fishing tournaments, just not at those numbers.Boxerrider wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 8:46 am Looks like they got "swamped". Re: TX: Boats sink on Trump boat parade in lake Travis
We used to participate in a sailboat race on Lake Travis on Memorial day. It wasn't unusual for us to have 300 boats in all different sizes which were categorized into different starts beginning at 10:00am. It wasn't too bad if there was wind but on the days where the wind was light, the big power boats would drive through our fleets and nearly swamp the smaller boats. Most bigger sailboats, because of the weights in their keels, will self-right pretty quickly. I cannot imagine being in something like a bass boat with a very low freeboard and not much forward movement in those conditions.Keith B wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 9:26 amI’m with you. This is how I lost all my guns.....
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.
