Grapevine Protest Today...

#1

Post by PUCKER »

GV PD posted up on facebook about a planned protest on Main St today...an hour before the start time! Um, thanks!? Anyway, our office building is right off of Main...away from the "entertainment" district...but I gave our tenants a heads-up, one of them owns a restaurant right there at Main & Dallas...anyway...from what I could tell (from photos posted on facebook) it was peaceful. The folks were marching on the sidewalk, not in the street. Didn't make it down towards our end of Main. I was keeping an eye on things in case anything stupid happened, better to be prepared than not. :tiphat:

I'm glad the protest Grapevine protest went OK. The one in Lewisville on Tuesday did not. While there was no damage that I know about, there was tear gas and a number of arrests. There had been an earlier video before the protest in the same area that showed cars with broken window glass but there was no way to confirm that those were done as part of the protest.

Part of my concern is just how to "be prepared" for a protest that gets out of control. We are probably fortunate that coming down our one way street would look like a bad idea to protestors. But, that said, it is easy enough to block emergency vehicles from entering because of that situation.

How many protestors were there?

I was unaware of any issues with the Lewisville one on Tuesday. I was leaving work, Medical City Lewisville, at 1900 and there were still people walking along Main St. on the east side of 35E near the hospital. There wasn't anyone brought to the ER for treatment as a result of anything during the protest that I was aware of.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Regarding number, I didn’t see any with my own eyes. Looked like a fairly small group (under 100) from the pics that GVPD posted on their Facebook page.

No injuries that I was aware of. After the tear gas was used, the videos show that crowd falling back. I read the list of arrests and it looks like they may have been stragglers after the main part of the crowd dispersed.

Based on Pucker's post, I'd say the Lewisville numbers were higher.

I would not be surprised if some of the local teen thugs see the looters and rioters getting away with looting and rioting in New York and think they can pull that crap here.
