Need help with “Essential Businesses”

I find it strange that Houston Galveston and New York refuse to shut down public transit systems. People crammed into tin cans coughing and sneezing all the while moving them across town. How is this safer than eating at your favorite restaurant? Leftist hate automobiles but love taxpayer funded trains and busses.

Took my car to get it serviced. No waiting.

Ubered it back home. He had hand sanitizer in the back seat pockets and kept the windows down. I had a Clorox wipe in my hand and used that to open and shut the door.

Other than that a normal day.

I'm in IT (Systems Engineer) for a medium-large MSP. We're considered an essential business because we support several doctor's offices, lawyers, etc. What really surprised me though is that we are also considered essential to non-essential businesses like furniture design companies. Apparently making sure that they can work from home and stay away from everyone else is considered "essential".

The dear wife has been urging me to keep my hair shorter for summer. She doesn't like it long anyway. Says it makes me look like I'm trying to pretend to be younger. Being Day 1 of Harris County's stay-at-home order and all (and Day 55 of the Coronapocalypse counting from Jan 30 when the WHO declared a public health emergency), she sat me down this morning and grabbed the clippers and scissors. Not a bur or a crew, but I'm now sporting a high-and-tight with a little length left on top. I think my ears look like open taxicab doors. But it definitely is cooler.

I have a serious problem with the whole darned thing. I think it is fine for the government to step in and recommend such things. The government MANDATING these things makes me madder than a wet hen. We are suppose to be a free country with the right to make our own decisions on where we can go. This whole situation is far more ominous than I think many folks realize. What will be the next excuse to trample Americans rights? Where will the line be drawn? Many states are using this as an excuse to trample the second amendment. When is our turn in the barrel?

I think there is either much more to this issue that they are not telling us or it's a scam to send the country into a panic.
I don't consider construction work as essential, nor car washes, liquor stores, auto parts, oil change places, or any number of other types of businesses.
Then there's the partisan crap going on in congress to get what each other wants. I see Bernie just said he was going to "slow walk it" unless his changes were made.Go figure.

On a positive note Denton County included gun and ammunition retailers as essential in their order which went into effect last night.

Sadly, Ellis County, which once issued a declaration as one of a number of 2nd Amendment supporting Texas counties, did not include gun and ammo sales on its essential businesses list. I noticed its order reads exactly the same as the ones issued from neighboring Dallas and Kaufman counties.

Also, when I called the Kaufman Sheriff’s Department for clarification on allowable “outdoor activities,” they emphatically said target shooting at a private outdoor shooting range was not included. I understand the need to stop the spread of the virus. But I think I have much less of a chance contracting it at a private outdoor range than I do if I were to jog around the neighborhood.
