His quick reflexes and running speed saved his own life.

In my opinion as a retired professional driver......That driver was going too fast for conditions. The fog in the background cut his reaction time and he didn't adjust his speed.

There was someone in the pickup. It took them several hours to extract him but there were no life-threatening injuries.

The officer kept his senses and had the presence to watch over his shoulder which way the truck was sliding. He suffered injuries but has been released.

In spite of all the research into autonomous vehicles and safety systems like pre-collision braking, there is still no commodity thermal/infrared/'sonar'/radar system for 'seeing' in adverse conditions being prototyped or tested for commercial vehicles?

There is no good explanation. I've heard drivers chiding others on the CB about driving too slow in adverse conditions. I got passed repeatedly in heavy fog, heavy rain, and snow packed roads. I mean they were EXCEEDING the speed limit in those conditions. Too much hurry (meet your delivery appointment time), gotta get to the truck stop before all the parking is full.
No reasonable explanation. Bottom line is stupidity and don't care attitude.

Man that Flir system is pricey List is close to $3400 street prices about $2500. A couple of others from $500-$1500. I’ve got a Flir camera for work and that IS their primary business so I know their technology and quality is above par.
