The Complete Guide to Making a DIY First Aid Kit
https://www.artofmanliness.com/articles ... t-aid-kit/

Written by a DFW area paramedic and Marine Corps veteran, the article contains good advice on do it yourself first aid kits. I like that he supplied links to every piece of his example kit.

Great guide. I like the inclusion of:
  • scope discussion - risks, who, where, why
  • basic training - weighs nothing
  • family medical information/history - easy to forget
I think he missed some big drugs:
  • constipation (laxitive)
  • cold/flu (expectorant, cough suppressant, pseudoephedrine)
  • topical pain killer (orajel)
I don't think he should include peroxide because it isn't taught any more.

This is in my head b/c hurricane season just started. Time for the annual review of supplies.

Note that this is for general cuts, scrapes, and minor burns. That kit is not designed to treat massive hemorrhaging (aka so-called gunshot blowout kit).

Correct, the examples he provided are for a first aid kit, not a trauma kit.

you have to consider what the purpose of a first aid kit is. it's typically meant to take care of the immediate need and get you home or to the Dr. that would not normally include things like constipation or cold/flu....also, those meds don't last long in a kit. a Lax has to be taken at night and you can easily swing by a drug store to pick up a current cold/flu med

My first aid kit IS my trauma kit.

I carry an small bottle of 100 proof - the kind they have on airplanes - for infection or pain, small tube of super glue to seal cuts deep enough for stitches, and narrow strips of duct tape for bumps and scrapes. Other than that, I tell my children to tough it out.
