so...
'Everyone' has a cell phone that can be used to trace them to a few square feet.
New cars all seem to have GPS
Covid is causing all coins to disappear. So, 'Everyone' is being forced (or encouraged) to use credit/debit cards to pay for even trivial purchases.
Is it being paranoid to think 'THEY' are watching us, and don't want us to do anything 'off grid'?
With facial recognition software and the proliferation of online cameras, the concept of privacy is an illusion. I'm not happy about it, but I'm not going to kid myself either. The technology already exists to follow anybody anywhere. A crime happens, the "authorities" begin to scour videos from the net. (police cameras, dash and body, security cameras, public cameras, etc.) They will be able to go back in time and watch everything, and everybody, in the vicinity of the crime. And, the number of cameras is increasing, as well as the quality of the video.
The only thing stopping it now is rejection from the public. (for now)
An insurance company has proven how little actual privacy means to people. Let us track your every movement with a device that you install in your car, and we'll save you a little money. It seems to be pretty popular.
Don't over estimate the value the average American "really" puts on privacy. They'll post all kinds of s#!t on FB, but give them a chance to save a couple of bucks and see what decision they make.
