Trump learns politics - starts backtracking on campaign promises

#1

Post by bblhd672 »

Less than a week after the election and Trump is already backtracking on promises made during his campaign. While I'm not surprised, I at least expected he would take office before becoming like every other Republican elected in the last few years.

Rather than individually list and link each source, this article seems to have them all (so far):
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/edi ... 13731.html

Don't get me wrong, I"m not starting a bash Trump movement, I'm just stating that he seems to have suddenly learned "the game" played in Washington.

Or, I could be completely wrong and he is playing his own game of backing down from extreme positions that are being protested in an attempt to douse the flames, with the intention of going forward with his agenda once in office.
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

Back during the campaign, Trump DID say he would support keeping the pre-existing conditions and the 26 year old staying on parent's health care. Fox showed a clip (one time) that showed that. Up to now, I have only heard that this is a new stance from the talking heads on TV. It's not true.

From the CNN Republican Primary Debate:

BASH: Mr. Trump, Senator Rubio just said that you support the individual mandate. Would you respond?

TRUMP: I just want to say, I agree with that 100 percent, except pre-existing conditions, I would absolutely get rid of Obamacare. We're going to have something much better, but pre-existing conditions, when I'm referring to that, and I was referring to that very strongly on the show with Anderson Cooper, I want to keep pre- existing conditions.

I care more about substance than semantics. He promised to "repeal and replace" Obamacare. I don't care if he "amends" it instead. Either way, we end up in the same place, with something that is different and better.

Get a wall up on our southern border. If we recoup the cost from lower immigration enforcement costs or by netting it from foreign aid to Mexico, that is fine. I don't need us to actually send them an invoice.

Give the FBI and other agencies direction to pursue criminals who happen to be members of the "elite". Again, I don't care whether President Trump is personally pushing the prosecution forward. It isn't his job to do so. But he should make sure that others are actually doing their jobs.

President Trump has a lot to get done. Let's worry about the results as opposed to the tactics.

My top three things that I care about:
1) Put a conservative, pro 2A on Supreme Court. (Hopefully more in the future)
2) Repeal/replace or amend Obamacare.
3) National reciprocity. (Not holding my breathe on this one)

The rest is icing on the cake if accomplished. :cheers2:

I agree with all 3. #3 would be below tax, immigration, and regulation reform for me personally, but it is a good goal. Your #1 is by far the most important.

Do you really want national reciprocity? You can't argue that each state should control abortions but the feds should control gun carry reciprocity. Some things better left to the states. You don't like Commiefornia, move.

There are a couple of things at play here. First Trump is trying to moderate his positions to calm the temper tantrums from the left. Second, some of his promises, such as Mexico paying for the wall, are so outrageous as to never have been taken serious in the first place.

I thought the same thing but then I approached it as not so much the Feds telling the States what to do and meddling. More of making the states follow the Constitution. National Reciprocity could simply mean every legally allowable person would be able to carry concealed. Constitutional Concealed Carry (CCC). While I appreciate, and support, the thought of whole-hog constitutional carry wouldn't CCC still maintain the "right to keep and bear arms".

Just thinking out loud....

Lets see what he actually does after inauguration.

If he doesn't deliver and forgets what got him elected, then We the people will throw him out.

But in the meantime, again, let's wait-and-see. For now let's just enjoy watching the Libs cry.

In my experience, the vast majority of the time when I see a UK article about American politics, they have no idea what they're talking about.

This one is no exception.
Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams

False equivalency. There is no constitutionally guaranteed right to abortions. There is a constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms. That right is currently being infringed by the states unconstitutionally. It's the duty of the federal government to do something about that. Abortion should be regulated by the states, as it is not a constitutional right, there is no power given specifically to the federal government to regulate it, and support for it varies drastically from state to state.

I know these are sensitive subjects. Please don't take this as an attack. It's really not. Just discussion.

Everyone needs to remember that the media hates Trump, they lied, but he won anyway. They will do everything they can to destroy him and make him a one-term President. Be very careful what you accept as true or the complete truth.

Correct! Guns are a constitutional issue. Preventing the murder of babies is a state police matter.

Am I a bad person for how much I'm enjoying all the liberal tears? We've just been bullied and lied to for so long; I'm really enjoying seeing and hearing all the bullies and liars pout and cry and throw their little tantrums.

I still don't see National Reciprocity working. New York is not going ot recognize a Texas License, it's just not going to happen. And Texas is not going to accept New York's laws, nope. And they shouldn't. The Supreme's do need to clarify that people have the right to carry, and the rules regarding that, but the rest, unfortunately probably has to be left up to the states.
