Tannerite

Re: Tannerite
I had a friend that used it twice and it set his pasture on fire twice. I have no clue how it works and what he did wrong. All I could get from him was he would never use it again.
Re: Tannerite
Had a friend bought some and tried two different containers on Saturday. Neither one would go off. I told him to take them back and get his money back.

We don't need more laws and regulations. The liberals have outlawed and regulated our freedoms too much already.
I have set off tannerite before, sometimes just experimenting. But once, I took down a widowmaker leaning tree safely from about 150 yds with a few pounds of tannerite. Big tree that could have fallen on the ranch road and killed someone. I called all the neighbors but one before hand (didn't like her). She called the Sheriff. Wound up having a nice little chat with a deputy. He thought it was funny.
Do what you say you're gonna do.

Re: Tannerite
I stand corrected. I did find this, tho:
"The FAA does not prohibit supersonic flight at altitudes of 10,000 feet MSL or above for military aircraft. It does prohibit supersonic flight for civilian aircraft in most cases. Thus, military aircraft can fly at supersonic speeds as long as they are at or above 10,000 feet MSL."

Re: Tannerite
It's a binary explosive. It's made up of Ammonium Nitrate and Aluminum powder. You really can't ban it because Ammonium Nitrate is what makes instant cold packs cold and aluminum powder is easy to make. I have never seen one of these create a flame unless gasoline (or other flammable liquid) was added.carlson1 wrote:I had a friend that used it twice and it set his pasture on fire twice. Re: Tannerite
I actually just had my uncle call me yesterday about this up in Illinois. Sounds like someone was doing something similar.
Re: Tannerite
I have started 2 fire with the standard 1 lb tannerite used 100% according to directions.ajwakeboarder wrote: have never seen one of these create a flame unless gasoline (or other flammable liquid) was added.

Re: Tannerite
There may be no flame but there is a good deal of heat and sparks.

All exploding targets were banned at my local range when some guys started a grass fire using tannerite.

What?
Are you a kid that needs to hear, be part of a big boom?

Of COURSE I like to hear loud booms and see stuff blow up! Haven't you ever enjoyed a fireworks show? When people are acting like the "gents" in the OP's post, then yeah, it's a problem. But if nobody is getting hurt and nobody is getting bothered, what do you care?

I did grow up. Like you, I got a .gov job and they gave me guns and bombs and other cool stuff and there is no going back to firecrackers or m-80s.Abraham wrote:Having been part of the pointy end of spear military, the idea of Tannerite makes me shake my head.

Re: Tannerite
I'm of the mindset that this shouldn't be outlawed. I believe if you want to make pipe bombs and watch them go off, then have fun. It's called natural selection and we humans have been making our own gene pool shallower for a while now. The movie Idioacracy comes to mind.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

Hmmm...been active duty Army for the last 15 years and I just shot some tannerite with my dad while I am in East Texas on leave. Guess I'm just a kid too.Solaris wrote:I did grow up.
